Ann Curry Officially Leaving The Today Show

In one of the worst kept secrets as of late, Ann Curry has stepped out and officially confirmed that she will be leaving the Today Show after 14 years and will be announcing her departure to viewers this morning, reports USA Today.

As rumors began to swirl regarding her exit from the popular morning show, Curry admits that the leak of information did hurt her. She says the fact that it was indeed NBC’s idea to push her out of the co-anchor seat after only one year will leave some wounds and that she feels there were some kinks that would’ve been worked out.

“I don’t know who has been behind the leaks, but no question they’ve hurt deeply,” she says.

“You know, Matt and I have had great on-air chemistry for 14 years, been part of the No. 1 winning team for a history-making number of years.That said, I just finished my freshman year as co-host. In every single co-host’s first year, there have been kinks to be worked out, and perhaps I deserve as much blame for that as anyone.”

Fox News reports that Ann Curry was originally planning on leaving NBC altogether but was instead approached about a new opportunity within the company that would allow her to report on all the big-ticket stories around the world. This new venture would have her producing high-profile pieces for Dateline, NBC Nightly News, Rock Center and even the Today Show.

She admits that even though the Today Show was her dream job, she is still very excited have the ability to travel and report on matters that will make a difference in the world.

“In my secret heart of hearts, I see this as a thrilling opportunity. To have a ticket to every big story in the world — no small matter.”
