Does Charlie Sheen Hate Women? Despite His Diagnosis, He Can’t Fight Misogyny

While it is unfortunate that Charlie Sheen has been struggling with his HIV diagnosis, it doesn’t take away from his horrid history with women, many of whom are now being blamed for the virus. Rather than simply focusing on the future, Sheen publicly blamed “unsavory and insipid” women for the state he’s in.

According to the Inquisitr, Sheen is currently selling off the investments, which were intended to give stability to his ex-wives and children, to pay his debts. Denise Richards and his daughters have moved out of their house and it’s on the market, and Brooke Mueller and sons are being asked to leave their house because “Sheen needs to sell it.” Both of these houses in the elite Mulholland Estates are on the market and should fetch approximately $10 million, which Sheen will need to start funding the variety of lawsuits he is facing. Prior to his admission on national television that he has HIV, Sheen allegedly sent a letter to Brooke Mueller stating that she needs to vacate the home, which was put into a trust to her sons with Sheen.

The New Pittsburgh Courier revealed that even when coming clean on the state of his health, Charlie Sheen found a way to take a dig at the women he claims are responsible, rather than simply owning up to reckless behavior. He is still considered a “bad boy” in his 50s, which is what people call a man with money who doesn’t take responsibility for his own behavior.

“Sheen was allegedly blackmailed for years, as those privy to his private medical condition threatened to reveal his secret. Considering Sheen — most famously known for Two and a Half Men, often-joked-about drunk videos and #Winning — has had a long history of abuse, violence, and misogyny toward women, many people have found it difficult to empathize, or even sympathize, with his tumultuous journey to publicly disclosing his HIV status.”

Sheen could be an inspiration to those living admirably with HIV, but instead, he has decided to call out those he blames for his current situation.

According to the Telegraph, Sheen has moved forward, unrepentant and owning his “winning” playboy lifestyle, which didn’t change with marriages and children.

“In 1995, he testified in the trial of Hollywood madam, Heidi Fleiss, admitting to spending over $50,000 on the services of some 27 prostitutes (“for heterosexual services,” he made clear). Sheen’s post-trial demeanour was candid and unrepentant. He was a wealthy celebrity who made movies to finance his sybaritic lifestyle and he made no attempts to hide the fact.”

The “heterosexual services” part has also been called into question with the appearance of a drug-fueled videotape that puts him squarely into yet another lawsuit. This time, a man has accused Sheen of giving him herpes, according to the Inquisitr.

The San Jose Mercury News is looking beyond what Sheen wants everyone to think is a mea culpa and focused instead on his abhorrent treatment of women over his adult years. While it would be despicable to simply put the blame on the victim of a disease, it would be incredibly naive not to look at how Charlie Sheen ended up in this position.

“He also has a long history of violence towards women. It’s a pattern of documented behavior that would make the most misogynist NFL player look like Mr. Sensitivity. And if we’re learning to not tolerate this kind of thuggery from our professional sports heroes, why would we ignore it in estimating how much sympathy Sheen deserves for his plight?”

How can one overlook the hateful language against women and the arrests for domestic violence? Sheen should not be shamed for having an incurable disease, but should he be held responsible finally for all of his other misdeeds?

“No one should shame or stigmatize Charlie Sheen for being HIV positive,” one reader commented on this week’s Jezebel piece. “They should shame and stigmatize him for being a woman beater (and shooter) and a piece of garbage.”

Touche Jezebel, touche.
