WWE News: Thought To Be Retired Superstar Returns At ‘Survivor Series’

Many have been wondering just what was going to happen as Survivor Series finally rolled around tonight from Atlanta. There have been rumors of heel turns and the return of Sting, but WWE got things started really early with the surprises. On the kickoff, there was a traditional elimination tag team match and the final participant was a returning superstar that many thought was retired – Goldust.

The kickoff match started the night in a big way with two teams of five facing off in traditional and elimination style.

The heel team came out first and consisted of Cosmic Wasteland (Stardust and The Ascension), Bo Dallas, and The Miz. After that, the face team was led out by Neville, the Dudley Boyz, Titus O’Neil, and a returning Goldust as reported by WWE‘s Twitter account.

Stardust, was needless to say, shocked at the return of his real-life brother to the squared circle.

Upon entering the ring, the two teams faced off and then retreated to their corners. Stardust started things off with Goldust, but the “bizarre one” quickly got the upper-hand. At that point, Stardust quickly got to his corner and tagged out to Viktor, but it didn’t help a whole lot.

Goldust made very quick work of Viktor, and one member of The Ascension was the first eliminated in the match.

Goldust has been out of action for months and actually hasn’t been seen in a ring since March of this year. He disappeared from WWE television and then ended up having surgery for a shoulder injury that had been bothering him for a long time. He was expected to be on the shelf for 2-4 months, but it’s obviously been a lot longer.

With Goldust being out of action for so many months, it was believed that the 46-year-old star had finally headed into retirement. Rumors have been going around about his retirement for about two years now, but he always said there was no truth to them.

His long absence though, even after being healed from surgery, had the rumors start up again. Goldust never fully admitted that he was retired though, and always insisted he would be back some day to take on his brother Cody Rhodes aka Stardust.

Well, it appears as if Survivor Series was the perfect time for his unexpected return and to prove wrong, anyone who said he was retired.

As recapped by WrestleZone, it was an impressive showing for the babyface team in the elimination tag team match too. Out of the five on the team, only one person (Neville) was eliminated by the heel team and made for a big-time victory.

After Goldust eliminated Viktor, Bubba Ray Dudley took out Konnor to get rid of The Ascension entirely. The Miz shocked everyone when he was able to take advantage of Neville and pin him for the babyface team’s only loss of the evening.

Immediately after that, The Miz was rolled up by Goldust and eliminated from the Survivor Series match. Afterward, Titus O’Neil took out Bo Dallas and scared Stardust back into the ring who was hit with a 3-D and pinned by D-Von Dudley.

The return of Goldust at Survivor Series could lead to a feud with Stardust which could, in turn, bring about a dream that Dustin Rhodes has long wanted. Maybe he will finally be able to face off with his brother in a one-on-one match at WrestleMania.
