Teenager Avoids Jail After Raping 5-Year-Old Girl

A 17-year-old teenager from Burbage admitted to raping a 5-year-old girl. The incident occurred after they played video games in his bedroom in 2014.

The names of the teenager and little girl were not revealed due to their age. However, the teenager was 16 at the time of the rape and the little girl was 5. According to Metro, the boy and girl were playing video games in his bedroom in December of 2014. After they finished playing the game, the teenager proceeded to kiss his victim, remove the little girl’s clothing, and rape her. When the teenager finished, he told the little girl that it was a secret and she should not tell anyone.

During court, it was ruled that the teenager would not spend time in jail. However, he would be required to register as a sex offender for two and a half years, attend a sex offender program, and pay a £15 victim surcharge (equivalent to approximately $22.79), according to the Hinckley Times.

The victims parents call the sentence “pathetic,” and the little girl’s mother felt sick that justice was not served.

“This whole thing has ripped our family apart. When I heard the sentence being handed down I felt sick.”

The little girl’s mother claims that her daughter not only lost her innocence, but the Leicester Crown Court’s ruling has ripped their family apart. They hoped for a sentence that was more appropriate for the crime.

“This whole thing has ripped our family apart – when I heard the sentence being handed down I felt sick. The trauma has been unbearable. My daughter is a different girl now and will have to live with this forever. It is unacceptable that Leicester Crown Court, the very place that this young girl was relying on to help get her justice, has failed her so outrageously. We say that the sentence must be appropriate and in accordance with the severity of the crime.”

The little girl did not keep the secret for long. She was in severe pain after the teenager raped her and decided to tell her mother so she could make the pain go away. The mother promptly called the police and reported the incident.

The mother claims that her daughter has been through an abundant amount of stress, and despite counseling efforts, she is still plagued by the incident and will be for the rest of her life.

Family and friends have started a campaign to raise funds to take the teenager back to court. Other family friends started a petition to encourage the courts to review the case one more time, in hopes they will realize that they have made a horrible error when the sentence was handed out.

The little girl’s mother, as well as family and friends, feel that other children may be in danger as the teenager walks the streets instead of sitting behind bars.

It is unknown whether the lenient sentence was given because the assailant was a minor at the time of the crime, or if the judge truly felt that rehabilitation and registering as a sex offender would be suitable enough punishment to set the teenager on the right path.

What are your thoughts, should the teenager have received a harsher sentence?
