Miley Cyrus Identifies As Pansexual But Single: What Does This Mean, And What About Stella Maxwell?

Miley Cyrus made headlines in late August when she announced that she identified as pansexual.

Miley Cyrus made the cover of Elle UK’s October magazine issue, which was dedicated to sexuality and gender, Hollywood Life reported.

The leading interview with Miley Cyrus didn’t just focus on her sexuality, though, as the 22-year-old singer-songwriter also openly discussed her extensive charity work, her role as the host of the MTV VMAs, and possibly the work that she is most passionate about: activism for LGBT rights and feminism.

The conversation did inevitably turn to Miley Cyrus’s sexuality, though, which the singer surely wasn’t surprised about given the theme of the October issue of the magazine. While Miley Cyrus has previously identified as queer, she clarified her sexuality in the in-depth interview, revealing the fact that she is attracted to all people.

“I’m very open about it – I’m pansexual.”

According to Stop Homophobia, pansexual is a term for people who feel they are capable of falling in love with all genders, or, in other words, people who feel they have the capability to be attracted to other people regardless of their biological sex or gender identity.

This doesn’t mean, though, that pansexuals are attracted to everybody, as it is perfectly normal for people who identify as pansexual to also have physical preferences. Rather, Miley Cyrus’s identification as pansexual refers more to the fluidity and openness that she feels towards people of all genders. There is also a subtle but important difference between people who identify as pansexual and people who identify as bisexual.

“People who self-identify as pansexual do so with purpose, to express that they are able to be attracted to various gender and sexual identities, whether they fall within the gender binary or not.”

Miley Cyrus went on to say that, despite the fact that she has now identified and become comfortable with her sexuality, she is still single and doesn’t feel that she is ready for a long-term relationship.

“I’m not in a relationship. I’m 22, I’m going on dates, but I change my style every two weeks, let alone who I’m with.”

That led many fans to ask the question: What happened to Miley Cyrus’s relationship with Stella Maxwell? Did they break up or were they never in a serious relationship to begin with?

Back in February 2015, the Huffington Post reported that Miley Cyrus had been seen passionately kissing Victoria’s Secret model Stella Maxwell.

Miley Cyrus had also been making regular appearances on Stella Maxwell’s social media accounts and vice versa.

Miley Cyrus also revealed some details about when she first came to understand her own sexuality. As the Huffington Post reported, Miley Cyrus revealed that she came out to her mother when she was 14-years-old, telling her about her feelings of attraction towards people of the same sex.

Here is Miley Cyrus summing up her sexuality in her own words.

“I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult — anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me. I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”
