Abbie Cornish Offered Role In Robocop Remake

The Robocop remake is building a pretty strong cast. Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Joel Kinnaman are already attached to the movie and now it appears that Abbie Cornish will be joining the cast as well.
Deadline reports that Cornish has been offered the role of Robocop’s wife. The character believes that her husband has been killed. Little does she know that he’s actually just a crime fighting robot.
IMDB describes the plot of the movie, saying:
“In a crime-ridden city, a fatally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg with submerged memories haunting him.”
Brazilian filmmaker Jose Padilha, who will be at the helm of the Robocop remake, said that his movie will deal with Robocop’s transformation from street cop to crime fighting robot.
Padilha said:
“I have my take on it. And I can tell you this: In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts. How do you make RoboCop? How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”
Here’s a trailer for the original Robocop.
Are you excited for the Robocop remake?

Please, Please Don't kill the film!
Jun 8, 2012
Why do they insist on ruining 80's movies.
Jun 8, 2012
I guess there are not enough original ideas out there that they have to reboot old material with the thinking the new generation never saw the original. I suppose they are right, but I rather doubt I would go see any new version. I guess I am stuck in the rut of the past and with so many many quality original classic films out there on video to watch I don't have the time to see the newer remade films. I know younger friends who refuse to even see any black and white film that was produced ( guess they didn't go see.
the Artist) Guess they will never know the true quality of classic acting and writing and film making. But it doesn't matter since they are there for me to enjoy.
Jun 8, 2012
yet another classic being ruined. wonderful
Jun 8, 2012
That movie will forever be a classic for me…I just hope they don't ruin. The sequels were awful, hopefully they do the original some justice with this.
Jun 8, 2012
Too late! Film's already being made…. Should have recast the father in the 70's show- the original Robocop bad guy- he was awesome! " Look at my face, DICK. He wanted to kill me."
Jun 8, 2012
Anybody else sick of Hollywoods lack of vision, originality and imagination? Remake after remake or ripping off other people work to make movies…How about creating a new idea yourself?
Jun 8, 2012
The music is the same as Terminator! LOL
Jun 8, 2012
ruining Robocop…have you ever seen the original Robocop?
Jun 8, 2012
Why are we runing classic by remaking them? If Hollywood has run out of ideas, then there is a country full of independent film makers who would love big name studios releasing their films.
Jun 8, 2012
hollywood has writers block.
Jun 8, 2012
Oh for crying out loud, Hollywood, please make one original storyline/movie this year. Just one. Not that hard, just one little original movie. Doesn't even have to be good, just original. Seriously! So sick of hollywood these days. Travis, I couldn't agree more.

I am, I can't wait!
Personally, I've always wanted to see how Robocop was "actually" built, the slow transition from human to cyborg!
Y'all down there, I can understand what you're saying, but have You ever wanted to see how Robocop got built? C'mon!
It's so suspenseful, sure I love and admire all three Robocop movies, but now I want to see how Robocop gets built, from being Alex Murphy to becoming, piece-by-piece, a cyborg who kicks serious criminal and homicidal maniac ass!
I WANT TO SEE HIM BEING BUILT!
I think it's worth going to go see! If ignorance keeps you people from wanting to know how he "became" Robocop, then you are NOT a true, Robocop fanatic! I not only want to see how Robocop get's built, but to respect one directors own point-of-view and curiosity into Robocop's past and gradual transformation into that crime-fighting cyborg he ended up being!
So I say, give some extra consideration, have You ever wanted to see the "actual" graduation from him being shot up with bullets and entering the hospital, then after they give up, then the real question begins… what goes on in between that scene and his initial introduction? What would it be like to explore the transition, the need to know what went on in-between? I do! I want to! I am THAT curious!
Jun 9, 2012
Well hunger games was sort of original…at least they ripped off from the Japanese instead of the other way around…
Jun 9, 2012
Everyone thought Avatar was so original except for the fact the story line was IDENTICAL to Pocahontas…
Jun 9, 2012
Why did they use the Terminator theme song lmao…. by the way the original came before its time and thus was a great film. Just hope they can do the same again. Esp the gruesome and horrific part of when he gets gunned down ;p.
Jun 9, 2012
Either remake a movie or adaptation from Japanese flick that is what Hollywood become.
Jun 9, 2012
There are plenty of original ideas out there. A lot of them become a success. But it's also nice to get a throwback remake through the eyes of someone who thinks outside the box.
Jun 9, 2012
The problem is, almost every movie produced is a remake, copy or a rip off. One Original movie of recent memory is The Expendables. Great movie too…but they are few and far between. Hollywood is not willing top put their money out there on an unknown so they play it safe and remake movies that will have a draw. That sucks! I understand it from a business standpoint but from a consumer standpoint, it sucks.
Jun 9, 2012
I am so with you Mansell. Do we really need another version of Spiderman.
Jun 9, 2012
anyone else notice the terminator music in the clip?
Jun 9, 2012
Why do I have to watch a commercial before watching a trailer for a 25 year old movie?
Jun 9, 2012
yeah but, it is all you do it gets really annoying and un-creative makes you think Hollywood just does not any new ideas
Jun 9, 2012
lol
Jun 9, 2012
If you read the article its not a remake. Its more focused on how went through the transformation from human to part human and machine. In the original you see murphy shoot up and taken to the hospital, then you see him as robocop, but you don't see how they did it.
Jun 9, 2012
this is one movie they shouldn't remake and sam jackson really bet its goin to be stupid.
Jun 9, 2012
This will be a flop
Jun 9, 2012
Will someone plzzzz make a original movie for Travis Russell lmao.
Jun 9, 2012
Brave, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, Lawless, The Campaign, The Raven, The Watch, Safety Not Guaranteed, ParaNorman, That's My Boy, Ted, Magic Mike, Chernobyl Diaries…just to name a few. Seriously getting sick of people saying, "Oh come on, Hollywood, just give us one original idea." Getting old people.
Jun 9, 2012
Yeah it is. LOL
Jun 9, 2012
um…I saw the Raven, it sucked and the rest of them I have not seen but I do not think they did all that well at the box office. I did not mean original bad movies…
Jun 9, 2012
I'm in total argeement. I mean I'm a mystery writer trying to get my new book published, and its an original story. Why cantI get this going and these remakes are being done. I guess this proves Hollywood writers cant hold a candle to book writers.
Jun 9, 2012
Wasn't replying to you. Mansell said IT DOESN"T EVEN HAVE TO BE GOOD. And most of these other movies haven't come out yet genius.
Jun 9, 2012
I really do hate remakes.. but I'm actually looking forward to this one. Huge fan of Joel Kinnaman.
Jun 9, 2012
Well, you DID reply in my thread and addressed my comment directly GENIUS.
Jun 9, 2012
No. I replied to Mansell's comment. I could give two shits about what you said. I was responding to Mansell. Calm down.
Jun 9, 2012
how is he ruining robocop? what he's essentially doing is making a prequel. He wants to show what happens in between the time when he gets out of the hospital and actually becomes the full fledged RoboCop. Sure it's not that original, but I sure as hell would love to see how they actually changed him into a robot instead of just plopping him in there.
Jun 9, 2012
Pretty much anyone that gets mad that a movie is being remade needs to go stuff a sock in it. You're just mad that someone is making an original move the way they want to see it, and not the way you want to see it. If any of you numbnuts could read, it's obvious that its just wrong branding, its plain to see he just wants to tell the story of how he became RoboCop, not remaking the original movie as a whole. Sure there are going to be some of the same characters, but that's the whole part of the franchise. Some people need to just deal.
Jun 9, 2012
"looper", "Django unleashed". . . . There are plenty!! You just have to look.
Jun 9, 2012
Dances with Wolves . . . in space
Jun 9, 2012
except the original showed Murphy as a cop, how he got killed and how they surgically turned him into robocop…not getting the prequel…we already know how he became robocop.
Jun 9, 2012
gee whizzzz….. is hollywood that strapped for cash? remakes are cheaper as studios or someone already ownes the original script, rights, etc., so re-casting and perhaps a slight re-write is all that's needed. way cheaper than doing something original. will they ruin robocop? I like the original, have my own dvd, watch it when it's on tv and enjoy it every time. most of the original actors are either dead or are too old for another shot, as in new apple and new core. who knows? when I see the re-make of 'fright night', 'total recall' and others, I'll let you know. sometimes it is better, sometimes it's the same 'ol, but most times? well, the word I'm looking for sounds like but is spelled slightly different than 'stinko'.
Jun 9, 2012
nah. nothing wrong w/their abilities. hollywood, as used in a generic way, has wallet block. some of the studios and producers have been hemoraging $$$ and with money going out w/ a while before $$$ comes back around, most are very leary in producing anything original. the tried and true , where once worked, seems like a sure thing. a sure things sounds 'surer' than a chance on something dicey. ever hear about the movie 'john carter …' good flick, underrated and under-advertised, the public just wasn't ready and people lost big time cash. eventually the $$$ comes around but that could take years.
Jun 9, 2012
hopefully they won't but there are many years between then and now. another generation has come on board and if you liked those flicks when new, hollywood is banking on a real possibility that the next generation will too but slightly updated. think 'total recall', 'fright night' to name only two of many. i'd like to see the remakes, hold my criticism until then (only fair). i remember, talking about oldie but not-so-moldie, when stone's 'jfk' first came out people were blasting the flix before it hit the screens. i saw it, i liked it a lot, went to see it twice and would tell people to see it as another prospective to that event of '63. it's not all historically accurate but then we all don't tell the truth all the time. ah critics! we all have 'em, don't want 'em, sometimes need 'em but let's be somewhat fair. see the the damn thing first, taste the food, drink the drink – then – critize and not before. that makes us look as lousy as what we're claiming the select items are … ok?
Jun 9, 2012
At least we still have James Cameron who makes Originals w/ lots of Vision & Imagination!
Jun 9, 2012
what Marie explained I'm shocked that someone able to profit $4171 in 4 weeks on the internet. did you look at this link makecash16.comONLY.
Jun 9, 2012
welcome to the 21st century, everything is technically a remake! even ancient myths are remakes of something from before…
Jun 9, 2012
I have the Criterion DVD of the original.
And the original is one of my all time favorites.
Jun 9, 2012
The idea itself is good. With today's current technology/special effects/CG, etc… It's a perfect time to tell this part of the story. There was something that could've been pulled off to show the transistion, but probably just didn't look believable (which doesn't help) Oh yeah and the movie 'AVATAR' was suppose to come out in 1994, but Spielberg said the technology wasn't good enough at the time. This side story should make the first Robocop more complete, but hopefully it's well written…for Hollywood's sake!
Jun 9, 2012
Talk about missing the point. Robocop was a satire of ultra violence and American media in the 80s. Robocop was just a device to tell the story. Now, mind you, Alex Murphy's story is pretty good, but it was was only a frame for the satire. Today, we live in a world of PG-13 action movies, there's no need for a remake.
Jun 9, 2012
Regardless, I'm very upset that SLJ is not Robocop. Because that would of been really entertaining movie.
Jun 9, 2012
Okay Jordan, "Brave" – like all other pixar movies. "End of the World" – has a copy of it coming out right behind it, just like "just Friends" and "Friends with Benefits" "The Raven," was not original and really sucked, "Chernobyl Diaries" – remake of paranormal activity and all the other reality horror movies. I guess I should rephrase and say, I wish Hollywood would try putting these movies out there more so than regurgitated crap. Less 3D BS and more substantial story and cinematography. Seriously this year alone has reproduced more movies from the 70's and 80's than any other. Sorry for actually wanting some artistic value for my money.
Jun 9, 2012
"In the first RoboCop when Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts."
There's a whole montage there in RoboCop POV, that tells us everything we need to know about the creation of RoboCop. It's like a few minutes long. But no, that's great, let's do RoboCop Begins, and have him actually be RoboCop at the very end of the movie. Because the only thing any movie should ever be is a goddamn fucking origin story rant rant Amazing Spider-Man rant rant rant
Jun 9, 2012
Brave like all other Pixar movies? When was there a Pixar about a Scottish princess who decides she doesn't want to get married and goes off on an independent adventure? I guess I fell asleep during Cars 2, so maybe that was a part I missed in that movie….Also, is Safety Not Guaranteed a remake of something? You failed to mention that movie which is getting some strong reviews…And seriously, why complain about artistic integrity during the summer movie season? It's pointless. It's not like this is Awards season anyway.
Jun 9, 2012
The Incredible Hulk is EXACTLY how you reboot a franchise.
Jun 9, 2012
fuck! they ruin EEVERY movie i love!!!!
Jun 9, 2012
red foreman can never be rereated.
Jun 9, 2012
John Carter was original enough…
Jun 9, 2012
Abbie Cornish looks like a little hottie…who cares about the rest of the movie lol
Jun 9, 2012
I have to disagree, there is a new generation out there that would like to see their own version, something up to date with technology and modern film making, and stars.
Jun 9, 2012
^ Ok then Remake Terminator and see how the new generation reacts compared to how the old one was LOL matter of fact REMAKE GREMLINS!! LOL Im sorry nothing tops originals except for maybe the Fly(1988) and the Thing(1982)
Jun 9, 2012

Jun 9, 2012
thats ok it will prob. bomb like so many others
Jun 9, 2012

Jun 9, 2012
The special effects will be good…Have to have the campiness, the Fox News sidebar complete with cheesey commercials…And the "I'll buy that for a dollar" silliness….That and extreme violence….
Jun 10, 2012
lol "Can you FLY, Billy?"
Jun 10, 2012
I for one will not see a remake of a perfectly good 80's sci fi movie, fuck these hollyweird dirtbags trying to suck money out of us..fuck this foreigner director and his lame ass take on a classic movie, hope this so called remake flops!
