Is Lady Antebellum Breaking Up? Charles Kelley Announces Solo Project, Band Taking A Break

Country band Lady Antebellum almost sounds like they have decided to break up now that member Charles Kelley has taken on a solo project. However, that is far from the truth at this point. The threesome have just chosen to take a much-needed break from touring in order to have some family time and to relax from their successful music career.

The big news is that Kelley has just announced his exciting solo project. He, along with Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, confirmed the news in an interview that was seen on Good Morning America and posted on Yahoo! News. They had previously spilled the news that they are taking some downtime. However, this will also be a chance for the members to take their time writing some new songs to put on their next album. Haywood explained the reasoning behind their break from the stage.

“We don’t know how long that’s going to take, you know. We want to, we want to have a little time at home, get some good family time for a little bit.”

It doesn’t sound like Lady Antebellum is going anywhere, but will be off relaxing and having some extended family time. That also means that they should come back with even more music to share.

Charles Kelley has just released a new single from that project. He teamed up with fellow country singers Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay in the song called “The Driver.” Talking to Rolling Stone in an interview, he said that he wanted to make a statement with this tune. He also said the last eight years of his life was put into this particular song.

“It was an idea I had for a year: I’m the driver bringing the circus to town — first one in, last rolling out…”

This collaboration brings out a new artistic side to the singer. He also has another “project” that is definitely personal to him. He is expecting his first child with his wife, Cassie McConnell Kelley. This time off from Lady Antebellum will give him a chance to be with his pregnant wife and spend time with his son when he is born. They are having a boy sometime in February after struggling with fertility issues for many years.

The lady of the band, Hillary Scott, is also looking forward to spending more time with her daughter, Eisele, and husband Chris Tyrrell. Dave Haywood has a son as well, so family time will be their first priority with this break.

Does this mean that there is still a possibility that Lady Antebellum may not get back together after this break? Charles Kelly insists that a breakup is not going to happen. In fact, he told Rolling Stone that he is pretty sure that the band will end up being happier when they come back together as planned.

“Because we’re so healthy is why I decided to do it now. If we were on the rocks, this would be a tough decision because it could break up the band. But it isn’t, because we’d already made the decision to take time off, and we said everybody can do whatever they want to do. If Hillary wants to go act, if Dave wants to go produce, if somebody wants to travel the world, go do it! This is our time.”

Maybe Scott and Haywood will end up announcing their own solo projects during this time. Or they may just want to spend it on their front porch sipping iced tea while watching their kids play in the yard with their dog. They may end up writing about it and turning it into a country song for the next Lady Antebellum album.
