Ed Sheeran, Ruby Rose To Host MTV EMAs: Why Is Ed Sheeran Refusing To Write Lyrics For One Direction?

Ed Sheeran made a huge announcement on September 30, 2015: he will be hosting the MTV EMAs later this month, along with his actress friend Ruby Rose.

As Billboard announced, the MTV EMA will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2015, live from the Mediolanum Forum in Milan, Italy. Somehow, the exotic location and an Ed Sheeran/Ruby Rose duo sound like the perfect pair to host the award ceremony.

Ed Sheeran made the announcement by his Instagram account.

“So happy to say I’m hosting the #MTVEMAs on 25th October! Cannot wait. mtvema.com”

The official website of the MTV EMAs described their hosting decision as “cute and bada**,” and it’s anyone’s guess as to which adjective is intended to describe which superstar. A good proportion of women around the world would agree that Ed Sheeran is cute, but he also is covered almost head to toe in tattoos, so does that make him bada**? Ruby Rose has played some interesting characters over the years, but she is arguably one of the most attractive celebrities working today, so which one is she?

As Entertainment Weekly reported, Ed Sheeran and his co-host will be handing out awards to an impressive slew of music superstars, including Sean Mendez, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, and Kendrick Lamar. There is also the possibility that Ed Sheeran will be presenting himself with an award at this years ceremony. Ed Sheeran has been nominated for Best World Stage, Best Live Act, and Best Male.

While Ed Sheeran chose Instagram as his social media forum to make the announcement, Ruby Rose chose to let Twitter carry the news to her legions of fans.

As Billboard noted, Taylor Swift has broken a record this year having been nominated for nine EMAs. Justin Bieber has also received numerous nominations.

The social media buzz about the hosting announcement has been largely positive…

…although a few negative comments are always to be expected.

Last year’s MTV EMA’s were hosted by Nicki Minaj which, according to Billboard, caused a spike in ratings of 17 percent, making last year’s show “the most widely distributed show in MTV EMA history.”

In other Ed Sheeran news, Time has reported that Ed Sheeran, who largely found fame as a result of having many of the lyrics of previous One Direction songs, will no longer write for the world-famous boy band.

But before rumours start circulating about a huge feud between Ed Sheeran and the four remaining One Direction band members, rest assured that there are no bad feelings whatsoever. According to Ed Sheeran, his reasons for choosing not to write lyrics for One Direction anymore are simple.

“They don’t really need as much help anymore. They can kind of do their own thing. Harry was 16 when I first met him. But now he’s 21 and has written with everyone in the world and learned how to write songs.”

Ed Sheeran previously wrote the lyrics for One Direction smash hits including “18,” “Over Again,” “Little Things,” and “Moments.”
