‘The Big Bang Theory’ Recap & Spoiler: Leonard & Penny Wed, But Can Sheldon Cooper Ruin Their Romance? [Video]

The Big Bang Theory finally achieved a much-anticipated milestone during its ninth season debut. Johnny Galecki’s Leonard and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting’s Penny got the wedding bells ringing as they married at last. The Big Bang Theory has become known for weaving laughter even into the sweetest romances, and the premiere didn’t disappoint, pointed out the Hollywood Reporter.

Penny proves that sometimes a kiss isn’t just a kiss. She’s still obsessing about Leonard’s decision to lock lips with a girl during his North Sea adventures, even though two years have passed. And when Penny discovers that Leonard has frequent close encounters with Mandy now because she’s one of his university colleagues, farewell to Leonard’s dreams of a fabulous wedding evening.

Heigh ho, it’s back to Pasadena where they go to ruminate in separate apartments for their unromantic wedding night.

But it’s not The Big Bang Theory without Jim Parsons’ Sheldon Cooper. So he decides to bring his own wisdom to the matter by describing Mandy as both attractive and brilliant.

Sheldon has been trying to have a relationship with Amy, played by Mayim Bialik, but he has so many challenges that he decides only his mom can help. And the romantic journey of Sheldon becomes sweeter when it emerges that he was contemplating proposing to Amy using a ring owned by his great-grandmother.

So what’s ahead for The Big Bang Theory cast?

Galecki and showrunner Steve Molaro offered some hints, noting that the decision was made to go ahead with the wedding because the suspense had gone on for long enough. But all of Leonard’s and Penny’s relationship issues definitely aren’t solved.

“Just because they have rings on their fingers doesn’t mean that it’s solved every relationship problem,” said Johnny. “Marriage doesn’t answer all the questions and doesn’t solve all the problems. So there will be plenty ahead with this commitment that they share. There’s very little comedy in everything working out well.”

[Spoiler Alert]

In addition, watch for Leonard and Penny to deal with the Mandy conundrum, revealed Molaro. Although Leonard spent his wedding night with Sheldon rather than Penny, the issue of jealousy won’t continue for long.

“I do feel somehow in the context of this show, Leonard should be with Sheldon for some reason on his wedding night. It seemed oddly OK to me — and the way it should be,” laughed the showrunner. “But moving forward, we’re flying right to the face of it in the second episode in meeting Mandy and Leonard working hard to try and put this behind them.”

And then there’s the famous Roommate Agreement that will impact the romance, said Molaro. With Sheldon’s dislike and distrust of any type of change, that apartment pact will play a key role.

“The Roommate Agreement will be around and out and on the table and being discussed in the fourth episode,” disclosed the show runner. “Sheldon is not happy about a lot of things that are going on in his life right now. But he’s doing his best to try and hold it together and get past it all: Rise above it or solve it… He’s used to being able to apply logic and science to figuring things out and none of that seems to be working for him these days.”

And for those who think that Sheldon’s relationship with Amy has changed him, consider his response when Leonard sadly revealed that never did he imagine being a newlywed and devoting the evening to Sheldon, noted Fox News.

“Really?” Sheldon queried. “I’ve never imagined it any other way.”

What do you think will happen on The Big Bang Theory when Sheldon brings out that Roommate Agreement? Can he save his relationship with Amy, and will Penny and Leonard have a happy marriage? Post your views below.
