Gay Couple Behind Kim Davis Jail Sentence Heartbroken By Events: ‘I Didn’t Want Her In Jail’

The gay couple at the heart of the Kim Davis jail sentence are not happy with how things went down, according to a new report from the Daily Mail.

David Moore, 39, and David Ermold, 41, who were denied a marriage license on four separate occasions by Davis, are taking no joy in the fact that Davis was sent to jail for her religious beliefs.

In fact, they feel their wedding day has been “tainted forever” as a result of the outcome, even though they’ve finally received their license from one of Davis’ deputies.

“I hate to say it but our marriage license put someone in jail — that’s what it cost,” said Ermold. “The cost here is great and it’s larger than anyone could possibly imagine. I talked to David [Moore] and I talked to a pastor about it — how am I supposed to walk down the aisle and stand at an altar without feeling some kind of hurt?”

Moore agreed with his spouse-to-be, stating that it was “never going to be a good memory.”

“The entire experience is this tainted thing now. Even when we have our ceremony, people are going to ask us about it, they are going to say Kim Davis’ name,” he added.

Now that the Kim Davis jail sentence has been removed and the 49-year-old elected official is free, Moore said he is “pessimistic” that she will do her job.

Adding to the frustration for the gay couple is the fact that Davis’ legal team is now refuting the legitimacy of the marriage license they were issued. Also, according to NBC News, Davis has publicly vowed that she will return to work — a position for which she cannot be fired, at least not without due process — and continue to hold by her beliefs.

The situation has cast her as a modern day martyr in the eyes of Mike Huckabee, a Republican candidate for the 2016 Presidential nomination, but Moore disagrees with that view.

“She was not in jail because she’s a poor Christian lady but because she was in contempt in court. She didn’t have to go to jail, she chose to go. The judge is giving her these chances and now she’s getting her freedom back. The easiest thing would be if she went back to work and didn’t have [a] problem with doing marriage licenses. She has to just do her job or she should step aside.”

Ermold agreed.

“I didn’t want her in jail, I wanted her to resign and do the dignified thing. Unfortunately that’s not what has occurred.”

Do you think this gay couple should feel like their impending marriage has been tainted by Davis’ actions?
