Donald Trump: Robert Redford’s ‘Nice Words’ Really More Of An Insult?
Donald Trump, Robert Redford, and a misleading tweet: It all started after Robert Redford said some so-called “nice words” about Donald Trump, and Trump promptly took Redford’s comments out of context.
When speaking with Larry King during an Ora.tv interview on August 28, Redford sort of complimented that 59-year-old business-magnate-turned politician. Redford said that he thought having Trump in the race was a good thing because it helps to shake things up for the other candidates. You can see Redford’s words in Trump’s tweet below.
In response, Trump tweeted this message on Tuesday.

Great. Except, the words attributed to Redford don’t tell the whole story. Yes, Redford did speak about Donald Trump with the words Trump mentions, but Robert Redford — a long time Democrat — also had some other things to say.
For example, Redford told Larry King that Trump has “such a big foot in his mouth, I am not sure you can get it out.”
Those weren’t the only strong words Redford had. The actor also said that the presidential race in general is “like Looney Tunes and not Merrie Melodies. It’s crazy stuff.”
It’s not the first time the Trump campaign has misunderstood words where celebrity quotes are concerned. Earlier this summer, Trump took a comment from Warren Buffett out of context and misrepresented the comment via Twitter as an endorsement. Buffett is widely known as a long-time Democrat and has made his support for Hillary Clinton known.
The out-of-context tweets beg the question: Is Donald Trump deliberately attempting to misrepresent his public image to his Twitter followers, or is his campaign simply that dense? Mediaite writer Andrew Husband asks the question in his article titled “No, Robert Redford Didn’t Say Those Nice Things About Donald Trump.”
“Trump and his campaign team are either (a) being really thick, (b) actively deceiving Trump’s Twitter followers, or (c) both.”
Of course, it could be any combination of the situations Husband mentions, but the fact remains that Donald Trump and Robert Redford are not likely to be on the same side anytime soon.
