Tim Tebow Rumors: Did Philadelphia Eagles Just Give Tebow A Roster Spot?

Tim Tebow rumors took an interesting turn on Friday (September 4). Tebow may have a job with the Philadelphia Eagles after the team decided to trade quarterback Matt Barkley to the Arizona Cardinals. A report from USA Today confirms that the Eagles made the move to complete a roster reduction, opening the door for Tebow to take over as the third-string quarterback behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez. It also ends the debate using comparisons between Tebow and Barkley.

During the NFL preseason, Tebow played in all four games for the Eagles. He saw his most action on September 3 against the New York Jets, finishing 11-of-17 in passing for 189 yards and two touchdowns. In total, he completed 21-of-36 passes for 286 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception during the preseason. Tebow also had 14 carries for 82 yards and another touchdown, showing he is still good at using his legs.

These Tim Tebow rumors certainly make it look like Eagles coach Chip Kelly wanted to keep him on the 53-man roster for the 2015 NFL season. While it doesn’t mean he is going to see regular season game action for the Eagles, it does give him a long-term hope of getting to see some playing time. If the team goes through any injury concerns with Sam Bradford or Mark Sanchez, it means the former University of Florida quarterback could be one step closer to playing in an official NFL game.

There has been a lot of debate during the preseason about whether or not Tebow should still be on an NFL roster. He had been serving as one of the main reporters for ESPN when it came to SEC football coverage. Tebow could certainly make a living as a college football commentator at some point, but he continues to try to live out his dream of being an NFL quarterback. Simply making it to the 53-man roster would again put that title behind his name.

A number of analysts had already predicted that the Philadelphia Eagles might need to trade Matt Barkley rather than give a roster spot to Tebow over him. Barkley has a good enough arm to be the backup for another team, and it looks like Arizona is about to give him that shot. As for the Tim Tebow rumors, they aren’t going to die down anytime soon. Now the chatter will begin about when he might see playing time and how he could see action if Sam Bradford cannot stay healthy.
