CMT Johnny Cash Tribute To Be Hosted By Kid Rock

September 12 marks 12 years since the death of country music legend, Johnny Cash. To commemorate this day, CMT is holding a celebration of Cash and his legacy that will last all week. Kid Rock will be the host of this anniversary tribute.

CMT will kick off Johnny Cash Week on Tuesday, September 8, with an airing of Walk the Line, the Oscar-winning movie starring Joaquin Phoenix, as Cash, and Reese Witherspoon, as June Carter Cash, which depicts the life of Johnny, from his youth to his rise to fame. The film also chronicles the infamous love story of Cash and June Carter. Walk the Line is based off of Johnny Cash’s autobiographies.

On Wednesday, September 10, there will be a “Throwback Thursday” Video Block: Cash Edition. The greatest music videos by Johnny and videos by those he inspired over the years will be played.

Saturday, September 12, marks the premiere of the original documentary, Johnny Cash: American Rebel. This film will chronicle the life of Cash through his music. All day long, prior to the showing, everyone can get in on the festivities through social media to share their favorite memories of Cash.

Johnny Cash: American Rebel will include appearances from the Cash children, John Carter Cash and Rosanne Cash, in addition to Carlene Carter, who is June Carter’s daughter. This will be the first time for them to appear in a film together about Johnny.

The original film will feature interviews from Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Rodney Crowell, Clive Davis, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, John Mellencamp, Rick Rubin, and many more, according to CMT. Brian Phillips, president of CMT, had a few words to share about the Cash tribute.

“This weeklong tribute will both remind long-time fans as well as introduce new fans to the brilliance and artistry that made Cash one of the most influential music artists in American history.”

Johnny Cash is still, to this day, a prominent icon in the music industry. The music Cash made is legendary and has inspired many artists after him. In his time, Johnny released almost 100 albums, and created some of the most notable songs in country music.
