‘Fear The Walking Dead’: Will Alicia Believe The Zombie Apocalypse Is Occurring Before It Is Too Late?

In episode 1 of AMC’s newest zombie series, Fear The Walking Dead, the network started the slow unfurl that will eventuate in the full blown zombie apocalypse we know from its companion series, The Walking Dead. However, there was one of the newly-introduced characters who not only was skeptical about the dead rising again but who didn’t get a chance to witness it firsthand. Will Alicia (played by Alycia Debnam-Carey) find out about the undead before it is too late in episode 2?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for episode 1 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead and potential spoilers about episode 2. Please proceed with caution if you have not yet viewed this episode.

From what Alycia Debnam-Carey told IGN recently, “she’s still trying to justify everything” around her as civilization crumbles. She also suggests that her character may have been overprotected in the past, so could that work to her detriment in episode 2 (titled “So Close, Yet So Far”) of Fear The Walking Dead?

“That’s the amazing thing about human beings. You’re thrust into an incredible situation and you’re always trying to justify it realistically and logically for yourself and so part of that is the family always trying to protect her. They’ve been through a lot, obviously. As a family, we’ve lost a father and a husband. She’s got a brother that’s wayward and isn’t around much anymore, so she’s kind of been in the dark a lot and this is almost the final push where it’s like we just want to keep at least someone safe and innocent and protected.”

Considering Alicia is the analytical overachieving sibling, could her realization the zombie apocalypse is occurring come too late? There are moments in the Fear The Walking Dead trailer video that suggest Alicia is a little behind the rest of her family when it comes to the undead. After all, we saw just how up close and personal her brother Nick (Frank Dillane) got to the undead in episode 1. As a result of this, by the close of that episode, Alicia’s mother, Madison (Kim Dickens) and Madison’s boyfriend, Travis (Cliff Curtis) had also come to the realization that it was not just a bad case of the flu going around L.A.

However, even if Alicia comes to a grisly end in Fear The Walking Dead, it appears she will still learn a little more, at least, about the outbreak before she departs.

“When you have really little information, that whole putting together bits and pieces of what everyone’s telling you, that’s quite hard to actually do in a scene. Because you’re like ‘Oh, wait, I don’t know that yet, do I!?'”

With the promise that episode 2 of Fear The Walking Dead will be more action-packed than the pilot, Alicia may be in more danger than she thinks tonight. Especially since many are already predicting that her missing boyfriend is already a zombie.

Fear The Walking Dead returns tonight on AMC.
