The Hashtag #AmericanDad Trends On Twitter After Animated Sitcom Renewed For 2 More Seasons

The hashtag #AmericanDad is trending on Twitter after it was announced that the animated series had been renewed for two additional seasons.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, American Dad! joined the TBS lineup in October 2014 with the premiere of the show’s 10th season, after Fox dropped the show after a nine season run from its premiere in 2005.

Since moving to its new home at TBS, American Dad! has remained the basic cable’s number one scripted series in the Monday night 9:00 p.m. time slot with adults 18-34, and number two with adults 18-49, Deadline reports. After each new episode, TBS’ sister station Adult Swim airs an encore of the episode. Between the two networks, American Dad! averages 4 million views per episode. The animated series is executive-produced by MacFarlane and Weitzman, along with co-showrunner Brian Boyle.

In November 2014, TBS announced that they had requested a 22-episode order for season 11, which is set to premiere in early 2016. Now, they have ordered an additional 44 episodes of the animated family comedy, which will keep the show going through a 13th season in 2018, according to Entertainment Weekly. This marks the second time this year that the Turner network has renewed the series.

American Dad! has thrived since coming to TBS and Adult Swim, demonstrating the Turner portfolio’s ability to build enduring hits through a combination of smart programming, savvy promotion and extensive multiplatform distribution,” Deborah Bradley, EVP of networks optimization and content commercialization for Turner Broadcasting, said. “We look forward to keeping the crazy-but-lovable Smith family around for a long time.”

American Dad! is a great fit for TBS, a favorite of comedy fans who like smart, irreverent humor with ample doses of biting wit and skewering satire,” Programming Chief Michael Wright said after TBS picked up the show, according to previous report by the Inquisitr. “We look forward to welcoming Seth MacFarlane and the rest of his team as they bring this iconic show to TBS.”
