‘Jurassic World’ Rumors: Sequel Is Happening, And Colin Trevorrow Teases What’s To Come

The second highest grossing film in the history of time is Jurassic World, and it is not surprising that a sequel was ordered. While it won’t end up being released until 2018, there is already a lot of talk going on about it and rumors as to what the plot will be about. Well, director/writer Colin Trevorrow spoke some on what’s to come, and hinted at how “Open Source” dinosaur creation is.

Now, there could be some spoilers ahead for the Jurassic World sequel, but probably nothing more than what would be revealed in the official plot and trailers. Trevorrow and Derek Connolly are currently writing the film, so it isn’t even completed yet.

Trevorrow did an exclusive interview with Wired, where he spoke of the sequel and even teased what more was to come in the universe that is Jurassic World. It appears as if the sequel is going to not be a normal theme park setting this time.

“[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That’ll get old real fast … I feel like the idea that this isn’t always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment.”

Anyone that ever saw Jurassic Park: The Lost World knows that they attempted to move the action outside of a theme park, but not really. It was all for a theme park/exhibit in the United States, but the action just never really got there.

Trevorrow states that the idea behind the dinosaurs in Jurassic World is that they could only be created by a certain number of people. He delves into the possibility of the technology making it out into the world, and others getting their hands on it.

“And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy. And this isn’t something necessarily that was in the book but is a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, is that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It’s almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?’ “

Dr. Wu even says it in Jurassic World that “We’re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur.”

Trevorrow finds that to be overly intriguing, and an idea that wasn’t fully explored in the first (fourth) film. Of course it wasn’t. The idea behind Jurassic World was to start the franchise over, in a way, and get everyone into it again.

That obviously worked by the insane amount of money brought forth, and now there can be new ideas coming around for the sequel or sequels.

If they really need a story for the sequel or other future films, they can still go with the fan theory of the “raptor kid” from the original Jurassic Park.

Colin Trevorrow will not direct the Jurassic World sequel, but Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be back to star in it. Producer Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg will lead the filmmakers for the sequel, which hits theaters on June 22, 2018.
