Michael Jackson’s Iconic White Glove To Be Auctioned, Beginning At $20,000

The iconic white glove that graced that hand of Michael Jackson during countless performances can now be yours — bidding will begin at $20,000, which is a steal when you consider that not long after his death, another one of his white gloves was auctioned for $350,000, according to Business Insider.

The auction will take place by the Nate D. Sanders Auction House on July 30. Michael Jackson, often referred to as “The King of Pop,” died in 2009 at his home when he had been given too much of a hypnotic-anesthetic drug that is not available by prescription called Propofol, but that did not dampen his history of music and memories for millions of fans, as previously reported by the Inquisitr. His personal doctor was present when the death occurred, and Michael Jackson’s children, Paris, Prince, and Blanket, who has since changed his name, were present as well. Resuscitative efforts failed to revive Jackson after the overdose. The drug Propofol is generally only given during surgery or when patients have a protected airway, such as when on a ventilator.

Jackson received this particular glove from former friend Paul Debard, who created more than a dozen paintings of Jackson’s home, the Neverland Ranch, and he painted famous figures such as George Washington and the Mona Lisa wearing the glove itself. The glove is not the only thing going up for auction — Jackson’s jacket that he wore for the video “Bad” is also scheduled to be auctioned. It is not considered as iconic by most collectors and so bidding will begin at half the price of the glove, just $10,000.

The winner of the auction of the glove will also receive a photo of Bedard wearing the glove, art he created for Jackson, and an official document that is the declaration stating the glove’s authenticity.

Although once worth billions of dollars, Jackson is rumored to have died at age fifty in poor financial shape, having difficulty even maintaining the payment of his home. He had been involved in several lawsuits regarding alleged child molestation, and had multiple health problems for years prior to his death.

According to the Guardian, Barbara Walters interviewed Michael Jackson and asked about his wearing of one glove. In the 1997 interview, Barbara Walters asked Jackson to explain the fashion statement, he said “Why one glove? Cooler than two.”

However, Michael Jackson also stated at various times that he suffered from a rare skin disorder that caused him to lose pigment in his skin, which may be why he started wearing one glove in the first place. He vehemently denied that he bleached his brown skin to a white shade, stating that this medical condition caused him to turn much paler than he was born.
