The British Open Update – Marc Leighman Is The Man To Beat

The British Open is one of the four major golf tournaments of the year and is considered one of the most important tournaments of any golfer’s career. With golf’s best players showing up, it is often one of the hottest and most watched tournaments of the entire golf season.

Last year’s winner, Rory McIlroy, was forced out of this year’s tournament with a freak injury that ruptured a ligament in his ankle. With this injury, the door has been opened wide for many hopefuls to take home The Open Championship. With many rooting for Grand Slam hopeful, Jordan Spieth, today’s final day will surely come down to the wire.

Currently, Australian golfer Marc Leishman sits atop the leaderboard through 15 holes on the final day with a score of -16. Behind him and finished for the day and the tournament is American Zach Johnson who finished the tournament at -15 and still has a very good chance of finishing on top of the leaderboard with a score like that.

Today’s weather has been as unforgiving as the past couple days, during which players and spectators have seen the conditions change over and over again. Whether it has been rain and wind one moment or sunshine the next, the players are truly being tested on their ability to adapt at this tournament. Some may say after this is all over that scores all depended on when the specific player tee’d off, but if a player is truly special then the player should arguably have the skills to adjust to anything and everything that comes at them on the course.

There are currently three golfers tied for third place at -14; Jason Day, Jordan Spieth, and Louis Oosthuizen. All three of these players still have golf to play and will be looking to take the lead down the stretch. For Spieth, a win here could mean coming one step closer to the calendar Grand Slam, having already won The Masters and the U.S. Open. He will need to finish out the season with a win at the PGA Championship to join the very exclusive club of just two players that have completed the calendar Grand Slam.

Some other names to look out for as the final day of The Open continues are amateur and leader after Day Three, Paul Dunne, as well as Sergio Garcia and Jordan Niebrugge who both currently sit at -12 and are both have played through hole 16 currently. It seems as if the end of today’s round will surely be an exciting one as many players vie for this important Major Championship.
