One Direction Breaking Up: The News Fans Have Been Dreading
One Direction fans have most likely found 2015 to be a year they’ll be happy to forget. While there have been some amazing One Direction moments this year, other events have sent shockwaves through the group and have broken the years of many One Direction fans.
After Zayn Malik left the band in March this year, Simon Cowell, One Direction’s long-time mentor and music producer, fueled speculations that the boy-band might be on the verge of a break-up. In an interview with the Sun, Cowell insinuated that the One Direction band members might take a break after touring their fifth album, which comes out later this year.
“In terms of the band, they’ve got enough hits now they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do. Then I hope they’ll have a little bit of time apart and want to get back together again. It’s a fun job, but it’s absolutely their decision.”
This piece of news has already sent shockwaves through One Direction fans, who have grown increasingly attached to the group ever since the original five members appeared on the X Factor in 2010. One Direction went on to release four albums in the following four years, all of which debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard charts. But cracks seemed to develop when Zayn Malik decided to quit the band earlier this year, citing One Direction’s tight schedule, which did not give him enough time to live like a “normal 22-year-old.”
It was also recently reported by the Inquisitr that One Direction knew that Zayn Malik was leaving, months before the announcement was made. Why the group chose to keep the shocking revelation a secret for so long, feigning surprise when Zayn finally made the announcement, is anyone’s guess.
The fires were stoked further when People revealed on July 14, 2015, that One Direction member Louis Tomlinson is expecting a baby with girlfriend Briana Jungwirth, leading to rumors that he will not tour with the band later this year.

However, Simon Cowell refused to be drawn into the rumors, pointing out that becoming a father can only be a positive for 23-year-old Tomlinson and the band. Cowell spoke about his conversation with the One Direction member after the news was broken to him.
“I told him ‘You man up. You’re fortunate because you’re in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry too much about that.’ But I also told him, ‘I’ve received bad calls in my life but this is not one of them. This is your business but I’m here for you.’ He didn’t kill anyone. He got someone pregnant. It happens every day all over the world. Again, Louis has got great family around him and, look, it’s a plus, not a negative.”
Meanwhile, One Direction fans and media outlets took to the news humorously, expressing their surprise on Twitter.

One Direction fans are on high alert for any news that the group will be breaking up, or that Louis won’t tour with the group later this year. The five original members are now four, and if Louis becomes consumed by his personal life, One Direction will be down to three. As far as many One Direction fans are concerned, three members means One Direction is as good as broken.
