Inbox By Gmail Makes Its Snooze Feature More Advanced

Getting an email days, weeks, or even months in advance and then forgetting about it is a thing of the past. Inbox by Gmail introduced its snooze feature earlier in the year, but now it has made it more advanced. Rather than just clicking “snooze,” a user can select the perfect time to read it. The next time someone gets an invitation through email, they’ll be able to alert themselves when the time really matters.

Before, users were just able to hit a generic snooze button, but what use is that? Gmail’s update means that users can now pick a specific date and time. According to Tech 2, this is a great feature for those who want to track packages or need access to their flight confirmation on their smartphone.

Google says that the advancement will mean that, with just a tap, users will be able to choose to snooze an email for just the right time in the email. By the look of the Google blog, the snooze feature will read the email for the date and time of the event. From there, an individual can select when to receive the email again, such as an hour before an event if no forward planning is required. This “alarm” can be changed easily with a customized setting underneath.

At the moment, Inbox by Gmail will introduce the feature on package tracking, calendar invites, confirmation and reservation emails. If it proves to be successful, it may be introduced to other types of emails. It is certainly giving people a bigger reason to choose Gmail over other email services.

The news comes as Google looks at adapting its Gmail addresses to allow people to customize them more. For $2 per month, individuals will be able to get rid of the @gmail.com ending and have a @[yourpreferredaddress].com. For an extra $3 on top of that, the personalized email address will also come with extra storage.

While everyday users will question the need for this, businesses may be happier. Businesses with @gmail.com addresses are considered with caution. The issue is that a Gmail address is free and can be quickly deleted if there is an issue. Having a personalized domain name means money has been spent, and gives the business some legitimacy. However, setting up domain names can take time, and not all businesses are interested in this. Gmail will just make it easier by having the personalized email address available for a small cost each month.
