Chris Harrison Says ‘It’s A True Love Triangle’ On ‘The Bachelorette’

At this point in The Bachelorette, Kaitlyn Bristowe doesn’t have to create drama. Two of her three remaining suitors are doing that job. As Monday night’s cliffhanger episode showed, Shawn Booth and Nick Viall have a serious dislike for one another. According to host Chris Harrison, the dislike is real, but it doesn’t stop there.

Harrison wrote on his blog for Yahoo that “[t]hese two have never seen eye to eye and they never will.” He elaborated in an interview for TV Guide, explaining that the conflict between Shawn and Nick is not restricted to a personality difference. Both men love Kaitlyn, and in both cases the feeling may be mutual.

“Look, Shawn is head-over-heels in love with Kaitlyn, Nick is either in love or falling in love with Kaitlyn, and Kaitlyn is either in love or falling in love with both of them.

“Shawn knows that she has feelings for Nick and vice versa. It’s a true love triangle of epic proportions.”

Harrison made the comments in defense of Shawn’s not-so-subtle reference to Nick as “the other guy.” The long-time Bachelorette host said what comes across as a lack of dignity on Shawn’s part comes from a place of real feelings.

“You could call him immature, but when it comes to matters of the heart and when you’re that emotionally involved, can you really blame the guy for not wanting another man in his life?”

Former Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky, on the other hand, called Shawn’s refusal to utter Nick’s name “childish and unnecessary.”

As for Kaitlyn’s revelation to Shawn on Monday’s episode that she slept with Nick, former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman tweeted that it must be difficult, and “#propsforhonesty.” Fedotowsky said she felt for Shawn, but didn’t think Kaitlyn did anything wrong.

Former Bachelor contestant Sharleen Joynt blogged on Flare that the honesty was ill-advised when the fantasy suites are still to come and Nick is still in the picture. Joynt suspects the revelation might have been pushed by producers.

Since the unplanned “meeting” between Nick and Shawn was interrupted with a “to be continued” last Monday night, viewers can expect The Bachelorette to pick up where it left off on next week’s episode. As Harrison wrote in Yahoo, it only gets better, or worse, depending on your perspective.

“This has been a roller coaster of a season, but the lid is about to blow off this baby and you don’t want to miss it!”

And lest viewers forget, there’s still one more suitor in the mix: Ben Higgins.

The Bachelorette airs on ABC.
