Healthy Belgian Woman Granted Right To Die Due To Depression, She’s Just 24-Years-Old

A 24-year-old Belgian woman has been granted the right to kill herself by doctors because she is depressed.

The woman, who has simply been named as Laura, has been told that she qualifies for euthanasia because she is having suicidal thoughts, even though she doesn’t have a terminal disease.

Laura, whose been granted this fictitious name to keep her real name secret, has spoken to the Belgian publication De Morgen, via the Daily Mail, about the reasons why she wants to die, insisting, “life, that’s not for me.”

Laura went on to explain that she was depressed throughout her childhood, stating that her birth hadn’t been expected by either of her parents and declaring that her father was an alcoholic.

Because of these issues, Laura eventually moved in with her grandparents, who provided her with “security, peace, and structure.” This didn’t change her mindset though, and Laura continued to have suicidal tendencies.

Laura explained, “Even though my childhood certainly contributed to my suffering, I am convinced that I had this death wish even though I grew up with a quiet, stable family.”

She added that she’s tried to live a nice life her thoughts repeatedly turn to ending it all, which is why she has decided that death is her only option.

“Death feels to me not as a choice. If I had a choice, I would choose a bearable life, but I have done everything and that was unsuccessful. I played all my life with these thoughts of suicide, I have also done a few attempts. But then there is someone who needs me, and I don’t want to hurt anyone. That has always stopped me.”

It sounds as though this issue doesn’t plague Laura’s thoughts anymore, and even though she admitted that she’s fully aware that her death will haunt her grandparents and mother she’s still willing to proceed. In fact she even enjoys planning out her own funeral.

Over the last 12 months, the people that have been allowed to kill themselves in Belgium has risen by 27 percent. In fact, it’s believed that five people a day die courtesy of the assistance of doctors, most of which suffer from terminal illness.

Previously, a woman who had undergone a sex-operation that went wrong and left her feeling like a “monster” and deaf twins who were told that they would likely become blind were also allowed to kill themselves.
