It Takes 16 Police Forces To Stop Out Of Control Wedding Brawl, Groom Spends Wedding Night In Jail

Four police officers were hospitalized and seven people were arrested, including the groom, after officers from 16 different police forces were called out to handle the brawl at a Pennsylvania wedding.

The upset bride, meanwhile, was treated for alcohol poisoning and dehydration after officers put down the brawl at a Berks County wedding reception.

When police officers first arrived on the scene, they found three groups of guests squared off against each other.

That’s when they decided to call for backup.

By the time other officers arrived on the scene, some of the guests were shirtless and bleeding.

Venue owner Doug Mehrkam told WFMZ-TV this was the first time his place has seen a wedding brawl in 35 years.

“They were all pushing and shoving each other and it looked like it was getting nasty.”

The whole thing was started by 32-year-old Mandi Groh, who punched another woman in the face after she complained that Groh’s 14-year-old son was drinking, according to the Reading Eagle.

The teenager had a blood alcohol level of 0.16, twice that allowed for an adult.

After beating up that woman, Groh turned her attention to her husband, who she also punched in the face.

After dealing with that mess, officers went to check on the rest of the reception, but one of the guests blocked them from entering the building.

Officers tried to stun the man to no avail, and so they wound up taking him down with a baton. After taking him down, the officers found themselves confronted by an angry drunk crowd and called for backup.

Northern Berks Police Chief Scott W. Eaken told the Reading Eagle he saw fists flying and officers being threatened.

“Several people were trying to be a calming influence in all of this but at this point alcohol had taken over.”

The drunken groom even challenged officers to a fight and refused to back down. That got him locked up on his wedding night.

As bad as this wedding brawl sounds, it’s not as bad another wedding brawl in Philadelphia involving 100 guests beating on each other that ended in the death of the bride’s uncle.

Police determined the groom’s brother was the main combatant and charged him with assault, according to the Inquisitr.

The Pennsylvania wedding guests were charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, interfering with law enforcement, assault, and failing to disperse.

Hopefully, the happy couple has better luck in the future.
