Mulder And Scully Return In First ‘X-Files’ Reboot Set Photo

Fans of The X-Files have been given an early look at the new season in production, as the first photo of Mulder and Scully in action has emerged.

The image was posted to the official X-Files Twitter account, according to ABC News, revealing stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson shooting a scene for the newly-rebooted series. X-Files creator Chris Carter can also be seen in the image, observing the action on a monitor as the duo act out a scene. As Mulder, Duchovny is dressed in civilian clothes, sitting in the backseat of a car next to Anderson, who appears sharply dressed as Agent Scully.

“EXCLUSIVE: Your first look at Mulder and Scully! #TheXFiles,” the caption read.

Earlier this year, Fox announced that The X-Files would be returning for a rebooted, six-episode-long season, and that actors David Duchovny, 54, and Gillian Anderson, 46, would be reprising their starring roles in the series. As the Inquisitr previously reported, fans were elated at news of The X-Files’ return, especially given the 13 years that have passed since the series concluded. A feature film released in 2008, The X-Files: I Want To Believe, received mixed reviews, leading many fans to hope that the book wasn’t closed on Mulder and Scully.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” Carter said. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

Little has been revealed about the X-Files revival, though as Digital Spy reports, the new season is reportedly set to feature both monster-of-the-week episodes and those focused on the series’ alien mythology. Original X-Files scribes Glen Morgan, Jim Wong, and Darin Morgan will be returning for the reboot, as will actor Mitch Pileggi. Joel McHale is set to appear in the new X-Files as well, portraying a conservative news anchor who will become an ally to Mulder. Actor William B. Davis will also reportedly reprise his role as the Cigarette Smoking Man, one of The X-Files’ most iconic villains.

The X-Files reboot is currently shooting in Vancouver, the same place that the first five seasons of the original show were produced. The reboot will officially premiere on Sunday, January 24, 2016, when The X-Files returns with a two night debut.
