‘Angry Birds Space’ Toppled By ‘Draw Something’ In iOS Charts

Angry Birds Space has, somewhat staggeringly, been toppled. The feathery king of the iOS gaming world has been knocked from its lofty perch by none other than … Draw Something.

Draw Something, the app which sees players draw pictures for other players to guess, is the new top dog in the paid iOS download charts (as well as Facebook).

The app has achieved over 50 million downloads in the 50 days since it launched, and has now reclaimed its top spot from Angry Birds Space in the charts.

Angry Birds Space, which released only a couple of weeks back and was expected to dominate the iOS chart for months rather than days, is suddenly having to make do with the silver medal position. That’s despite the bird-flinging game racking up 10 million downloads in its first three days on sale.

Draw Something recently became the property of Zynga, after the social gaming developer bought out developer OMGPOP for over $180m. Since its launch, players have generated over six billion drawings – that translates as more than 3,000 drawings per second. Phew.

In other words, Draw Something is increasingly looking like the hot iOS app of 2012, against better expectations. Indeed, its sales figures make Draw Something the fastest growing original game of all time. Not bad for an app that essentially apes a board game first published in 1985.

The free version of the game (which comes with ads included) also sits top of the free download charts on Apple’s App Store.

Have you been lured in by Draw Something, or are you an Angry Birds Space loyalist? I’m assuming people hooked on both have no time to make comments on the Internet.
