Sam Smith Reveals The Song That Changed His Whole Life

While Sam Smith has been recovering from surgery in Boston, the “Stay With Me” singer took to Twitter to discuss the song that changed his life.

The 23-year-old Smith shared a number of tweets, which he tagged #HappyBirthdayITLH, to “to mark the mark the one-year anniversary of his chart-topping album ‘In The Lonely Hour,’” according to Zee News.

According to Times of India, Smith shared that “Lay Me Down” was “the first song I wrote for this record,” and that it had a profound effect on him.

The song had a big enough impact on Smith that he realized, it was all about the voice and soul behind it, not the way the singer looks.

And despite being the first song he wrote with his good friend, Jimmy Napes, Smith admitted that its “lessons” continue on “every day.”

On Twitter, Sam also shared his love for other songs. Smith revealed that “Money On My Mind” was his “link from LALALA to stay with me.”

Smith also shared that his super popular breakout hit “Stay With Me” caused him to react in a way he never had before.

Smith also shared, “‘Not In That Way’ – now we get deep… All my life I’ve been looking for a song that hits me in the gut & makes me feel how unrequited love makes me feel. This (for me) is that song… It explains perfectly how you can love someone with all your heart, but just not in that way. That’s powerful and real to me.”

While celebrating the success and “birthday” of his first hit album, Sam Smith has been recovering from a successful vocal cord surgery.
