Britney Spears And Iggy Azalea Make Comeback On Charts: Is Mariah Carey Next?

Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea appeared to be doomed with their single “Pretty Girls” before last Sunday’s well-received performance at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. Now, the song is making a comeback, thanks to Spears and Azalea’s performance, which was widely praised.

Entertainment Weekly really seemed to like the spectacle.

“Spears delivered one of her most energetic television performances in years: decked out in a leather-and-sheer fabric unitard, she shimmied around the stage as back-up dancers sporting skater gear moved around her. Azalea, meanwhile, held her own, reprising her role as some sort of alien figure in a silver space-age get-up. As for whether or not the two were lip-syncing their hit—doesn’t it even really matter?”

“Pretty Girls” immediately climbed back into the Top 20 at iTunes. It has since fallen back into the 30s, but it is shaded in green, meaning that the song is gaining in sales. Britney and Iggy have made huge gains in both streaming points and radio airplay, so the song should make a huge jump on Billboard’s Hot 100 next week, even though it has fallen from No. 29 to No. 30 this week.

Perhaps due to the initial mediocre reception of “Pretty Girls,” rumors about Britney Spears canceling her new album started to spread. Those rumors were confirmed to be false by Gossip Cop.

“Britney Spears’ upcoming album is NOT being canceled, despite a new claim. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the rumor, which began on Twitter and was then spread by a few blogs. We’re told it’s absolutely not true.”

Perhaps the resurgence of Britney Spears’ new single can help Mariah Carey’s new single “Infinity” climb back up the charts. Mariah Carey, who also had a performance that was well-received at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, debuted a couple weeks back on Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 82. It has since dropped off, but excitement over the music video, directed by Brett Ratner, could help the song climb back up.

The Hollywood Life describes a very sexy scene in the upcoming video.

“WHAT is going on between Mariah Carey, 45, and Tyson Beckford?! Less than two weeks after he gave her a sexy lap dance, the model is guest-starring in Mariah’s brand new video for ‘Infinity.’ And, yes ladies, she got him to strip down!”

Both Britney Spears and Mariah Carey are currently performing shows in Las Vegas to mostly good reviews. Let’s hope that these two can actually perform together on stage before the end of the summer.
