Grandmother Punishes Grandchildren By Killing Kittens With Hammer Because They Wouldn’t Clean Their Rooms

Josephine Bell, a 71-year-old woman from Illinois, has been arrested on charges of animal cruelty after she was accused of killing a cat and four kittens. Her murderous tirade occurred after she warned her grandchildren to clean their rooms. When they did not listen as she expected, Bell grabbed a hammer and assaulted the cat and kittens to teach the children a lesson. After killing the cat, she hid it in the freezer. The kittens were thrown away in the garbage.

KTLA 5 reported that a teenager at the residence in the 500 block of West Victor Drive called the police at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening, reporting that she found the adult cat in the freezer. When the officers arrived, the teenager showed the officers the dead cat and instigated a report on animal cruelty. When the teenager was asked about the details surrounding the cat’s death, Bell spoke up and admitted to killing the cat and four kittens.

Fox 59 shared that Bell warned her grandchildren that if they did not clean their rooms, they would lose their animals. She was frustrated with taking care of both the grandchildren and the animals. When the rooms were not cleaned, she decided that she would no longer care for the cat and kittens, opting to kill them with a hammer rather than find a new home for them.

The officer on the scene was told that the kittens were disposed in the garbage. However, he was not able to locate them for evidence. Animal control was called to the scene and confiscated the dead cat.

Josephine Bell was taken into custody under charges of a felony account of aggravated cruelty to animals. She is being held in the Madison County jail on a $15,000 bond. A trial date has not yet been revealed.

It is unknown whether Bell has acted out in a physically abusive manner toward her grandchildren in the past. However, the mental abuse caused by the violent death of their beloved pets is bound to have a lasting impact on them.

Bell showed no remorse for killing the cat and four kittens, instead she was satisfied that she no longer had to care for the animals. Authorities were concerned in regard to the manner she decided to rid her family of the beloved pets and her blatant disregard for life.
