Trial Begins For Sadie Jenkins Who Sawed Children’s Neck With Steak Knife, Claims Voices Told Her To Do It

A woman is accused of attempted murder after home owners awoke to find the intruder hovering over the home owner’s children, slicing their necks with a steak knife, according to Daily Mail.

Homeowners Nigel and Ceri Ash of New Port, South Wales, both 58-years-old, allowed Sadie Jenkins, 28, into to their home as a house guest. In the early morning of May 7, 2014, the couple awoke to their children screaming in the adjacent room.

When the couple reached their children’s bedroom, they saw Jenkins hovered over their 16-month-old daughter with a steak knife in her hand saying, “Sorry, it had to be done…it had to be done.”

Their seven-year-old son was curled up in a corner with a blanket pressed against his neck, and said “look what she has done” as he showed his parents the bloody gash on his neck, according to Mirror.

It was uncovered that Jenkins had sawed the children’s necks with a steak knife, trying to kill them.

Nigel and Ceri immediately took action and pushed Jenkins against the wall, wrestling her to the floor until the knife was out of her hand. The mother quickly took the children downstairs and called for paramedics and police.

Both children had to be rushed to Royal Gwent Hospital by ambulance to undergo emergency surgery for their injuries, but they are expected to make a full recovery.

Jenkins on the other hand was arrested for attempted murder, but she was first taken to a mental institution where she was released three months later, and questioned by police officials about the incident.

Experts claim she was legally insane during the crime.

“It is likely that it will be argued on her behalf that when the defendant attacked the children, she was legally insane,” Prosecuting counsel Paul Lewis QC said in court. “Although she knew what she was doing, she will say that she did not know her actions were wrong.”

“There was no hint of what was to follow.”

“She ran into the bedroom and could see the youngest was bleeding from her throat.”

“The defendant was standing there with a kitchen knife in her hand. The woman screamed at her ‘what are you doing?'”

In court, Jenkins denied ever trying to kill the two children and said that the voices made her do it and she had no choice.

A forensic consultant told the court that Jenkins is a drug user, and during the time she tried to kill the children with a steak knife, she was unaware of what she was doing nor did she know her “actions were wrong.”

The trial is ongoing.
