Mariah Carey To Perform At Billboard Music Awards For The First Time Since 1998

With the release of a new single in April, Mariah Carey has recently found her way back into the news. Now, the singer has found her way back to the Billboard Music Awards as a performer.

Carey has not performed at the Billboard Music Awards in 17 years, which means Mariah’s last performance at the awards show was in 1998.

The news that Carey will perform was first confirmed by Billboard and Dick Clark Productions. It was later confirmed by Carey herself via a retweet on Twitter.

Other performers scheduled to appear at the Billboard Music Awards include Kelly Clarkson, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Britney Spears, and Iggy Azalea.

According to information released by Billboard, Mariah Carey has had more No. 1 hits than any other solo artist since the list first began 56 years ago. In total, Carey has had 18 No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits, and she’s won 14 Billboard Music Awards.

Mariah also has had the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Billboard charts, as “One Sweet Day” spent 16 weeks at the top of the charts. The song was released in 1995.

Neither Mariah Carey nor Billboard have confirmed which song Carey is expected to perform, though fans can be sure that Carey will somehow include her newest hit, called “Infinity,” which was released at the end of April. The song has been met with mixed reactions, as some critics have called the song “a 90s breakup song.” Meanwhile, fans have come out on Twitter to support Carey’s most recent single.

In addition to recently releasing a new single, Carey also is set to kick off a Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace. That residency is set to begin on Wednesday and will take place on the same stage as that used by other divas Cher, Celine Dion, and Shania Twain.

Carey is also preparing to release her new greatest hit album, called #1 to Infinity, on May 18.

The Billboard Music Awards airs live on ABC on May 17 — the day before Carey’s newest album is scheduled to release.
