Annie Leibovitz ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Images Show Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o [Video]

Annie Leibovitz’s new images of Star Wars: The Force Awakens reveal Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong’o’s characters, which we haven’t seen before and just in time to celebrate Star Wars Day.

We have already met Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn), and Oscar Isaac (Pom Dameron), who were introduced by director J.J. Abrams at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim. However, we have not seen any images or heard much about newcomers Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong’o. Both characters are still unnamed, but speculation is rampant that Driver plays the hooded guy with the different looking lightsaber, Kylo Ren.

Famed photographer Annie Leibowitz visited the Star Wars: The Force Awakens set and shot not only Driver and Nyong’o, but veteran Harrison Ford (Han Solo), who will appear alongside Ridley, Boyega, new droid BB-8, and Chewbacca inside the Millennium Falcon in one of several Vanity Fair’s June covers, to be released digitally on May 7 and in stands May 12.

To promote their upcoming piece on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the magazine has released a 45-second video that shows Liebowitz in action, taking to cast and crew on set. The clip also offers fans a little more insight into what they will see in the upcoming future and when the film lands in theaters December 18.

The video shows Adam Driver, whose character’s identity hasn’t been revealed — leading many fans to speculate he plays Kylo Ren, who we saw in the teaser trailer released on Thanksgiving Friday of last year — wearing an all black costume. It also shows Nyong’o’s character, who is also unknown, but is wearing motion capture devices, suggesting she will be seen in CG.

One of the interesting things about Annie Leibowitz shoot is that she introduces us to a different environment from what we saw in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer released last month. We see an icy surface, as opposed to the hot, sandy, desert-like planet of Jakku, shot in Abu Dhabi, which is similar to the scene in which Kylo Ren was spotted for the first time last year.

Fans can also see the much talked about Stormtroopers with their newly designed costumes running around the cold planet. In addition, we see Ridley’s speeder once again, get a better look at Isaac’s character, also seen in the trailer, and “galactic travelers, smugglers, and other assorted riffraf.”

Vanity Fair has promised to release even more stills captured by Leibowitz when she visited the set at some point during the production. We have yet to get a look at original cast members Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) who narrated the The Force Awakens trailer, Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO).
