XBLA Gamerscore Limit to be Increased in April

Achievement-hunting gamers who download Xbox Live Arcade titles will soon be getting extra Gamerscore-boosting opportunities with their digital titles, as Microsoft confirmed today that the Gamerscore cap for digital titles will be raised to 400 starting in April.

In a post over on his blog, Microsoft’s Larry Hryb, or Major Nelson, explained that XBLA titles released in the month of April will have the option to use the old 200-point Gamerscore system, or bump up the totals to Microsoft’s new 400-Gamerscore limit.

That choice for developers is only a limited time deal, as Hryb went on to say that, starting in June, all Xbox Live Arcade titles will be required to have 400 Gamerscore through a total of 30 achievements, up from 12 in the old system.

“Starting next month (April 2012) all new Xbox LIVE Arcade games will have the option to increase from 200 to 400 Gamerscore points, with the addition of up to 30 Achievements,” Hryb wrote. “Even better, this Gamerscore increase will be required in all new Xbox LIVE Arcade games starting in June 2012.

A report from Xbox 360 Achievements came out ahead of Hryb’s confirmation, and it goes into a little more detail. According to the report, downloadable content for XBLA titles will be required to add at least 100 Gamerscore over 8 achievements, with a max of 4 DLC packs.

Are you glad that Microsoft raised the XBLA Gamerscore limit?
