Shelley Dufresne: Teacher Accused Of Threesome With Student Will Not Face Jail Time

Former high school teacher Shelley Dufresne pleaded guilty to having sex with a student, and will not be facing jail time as long as she follows court orders.

According to the Times-Picayune, Dufresne made a plea deal in which she will have to serve time in a mental health facility for 90 days, and she will also be on probation for three years. In addition, Dufresne had her teacher’s license stripped from her, and she is no longer allowed to be employed at a place in which she would have “a position of authority over any person under the age of 18,” Judge Anne Simon said, as she read the sentencing.

Shelley Dufresne is also prohibited from coming in contact with the student or any of his relatives, Simon said, adding that Dufresne cannot use social media to “contact or comment on the victim or his family.”

This plea deal allows Shelley Dufresne to skip the three-year jail sentence she would have originally had to serve, and she does not need to register as a sex offender. If Dufresne does not comply, she will have to serve 90 days in jail.

As reported by the Inquisitr last year, Shelley Dufresne and another teacher, Rachel Respess, were accused of having a threesome with a student at Respess’ apartment in Kenner, Louisiana. Both Dufresne and Respess taught English at Destrehan High School. Dufresne and Respess were caught after the student had bragged about the incident, which he later revealed to authorities as a “consensual” encounter.

Police reports indicated that Dufresne had sex with the student on more than one occasion. The plea deal was for a separate incident that took place in Montz, Louisiana. The case involving the student, Respess, and Dufresne is still open.

Shortly after her plea deal was read, Dufresne took to her Instagram account to post a picture of her smiling with a caption that read “my mood today,” according to WVUE. Since then, it appears her account has been deactivated, but WVUE was able to obtain a screencap of the image, which is below.

One Destrehan resident, Lisa Young, told WVUE that Dufresne shouldn’t be celebrating, even if the plea deal is less than that of the original charge.

“She needs to be somber. I don’t think this was a joyous day at all. I think for sure she would have had to register as a sex offender.”
