First Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 gameplay trailer released

When Sega revealed Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 for the first time back in December, the developer didn’t give us a whole lot to look at. Sure, we got to see a “cinematic” teaser, but we never actually got to see what the game looks like.

Well, now we can. Sega recently released the first footage of Sonic 4: Episode 2, once again exclusively through GameSpot. The trailer’s a bit on the short side, but we actually get to see quite a lot in the trailer.

In the video, we get a taste of Sonic 4: Episode 2‘s new locales, its updated graphics engine, new enemies big and small, and we even get to see a little bit of duo action with Sonic and Tails.

It’s not something you’ll likely be able to see from the trailer alone, but Sega said when Sonic 4: Episode 2 was announced that the physics system, a big point of contention with Sonic 4: Episode 1, has been given an overhaul, and it should now look and feel more akin to the Genesis era of Sonic games.

We’ll have to take Sega’s word for it for now, as Sonic 4: Episode 2 isn’t due for a release until spring of this year. Until then, you can go ahead and check out the first gameplay footage for Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 below.
