Anniversary of ‘Tommy Boy’ Brings Back Memories For David Spade

This week marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the iconic comedy Tommy Boy starring David Spade and the late Chris Farley. When fans commented on the anniversary, David Spade went online to share his thoughts about the film and his deceased friend, Farley.

It was on March 31, 1995 that Tommy Boy was released in theaters, although the film’s two stars had already spent five seasons working together on Saturday Night Live. Spade took to Facebook to share his thoughts on Tommy Boy and his friend.

According to People, Spade stated, “I’m told that today is the 20th anniversary of Tommy Boy. Aside from that making me older than f—k I have to say thanks to everyone who has said nice things to me over the years.”

The Tommy Boy star added, “I was very lucky to be in this movie with one of the all time funniest mother f—-rs the late great Chris Farley.”

Spade also shared a photo of one of the Tommy Boy movie posters signed by Farley, explaining, “We gave each other autographed posters as a joke back then.”

Spade added, “Now I see it in my office and skim over it because if I think about that for more than 5 seconds I’ll start bawling. Like now. As Chris would say, what a p—-. #RIP.”

The Tommy Boy star also shared what the autograph said, “David, let’s stick together.”

Although Tommy Boy was the first major movie role for Farley after Saturday Night Live, it was not his last. Spade and Farley reunited for Black Sheep shortly after completing Tommy Boy.

Farley died of an accidental drug overdose in December of 1997. And although Spade did not attend his Tommy Boy co-star’s funeral, he explained why.

As seen on Us Magazine, Spade stated, “I think about him all the time. We had such a good time for so long and we were crammed together for so long that we did have our squabbles, but I think people misunderstood me not going to that funeral… It was nothing about that. It was just too… emotional and I wouldn’t be able to handle it.”

Although the Tommy Boy star is gone, it’s clear to see that he is not forgotten as his co-star and friend took time to remember him this week.
