Bobbi Kristina Brown: Hope Remains For The Family

Where there is breath, there is hope. Bobbi Kristina Brown, 21, daughter of famous duo Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, continues to fight for her life. Reports paint a grim picture of medically induced coma, violent seizures, and most recently, the placement of a tracheostomy tube. Bobbi Kristina is certainly critically ill. The Brown family continues to pray, and as long as Bobbi Kristina is breathing, there is hope.

Conflicting stories are flooding the internet regarding the condition and fate of Bobbi Kristina. As the core members of the Brown family remain exceedingly close-mouthed, it is difficult to ascertain the true severity of Bobbi Kristina’s condition. Reports from other relatives who are not authorized to speak on Bobbi Kristina’s behalf must be taken with a grain of salt.

According to People, doctors attempted to bring Bobbi Kristina out of the medically induced coma, but after a bout of “violent” seizures, she was returned to the comatose state. An unnamed family source added another plea for prayer to the requests made previously.

“This is a horrible setback. Everyone was hopeful that this was the sign that she’d turned the corner. We were so optimistic. Bobby is taking this so hard; he was sure this was going to be a good day. But please, everyone needs to pray for Krissi. I don’t care what religion you are, or if you have no religion at all. Send your thoughts, your prayers, your well-wishes. Send everything you’ve got. Please.”

As a nation, we have looked on while the Brown and Houston clan have experienced this devastating crisis, much like a gawker on the highway stares at an accident scene. The least we can do is grant this wish, and send prayers and kind thoughts to lift up and strengthen Bobbi Kristina Brown in this time of need. Even if you don’t believe in that sort of thing, what could it hurt to spare a moment in quiet thought for this young girl?

My heart goes out to them, as I know from personal experience what it’s like to sit by the bedside of your comatose child. In our case, our baby was only three-weeks-old and suffering from a horrible bout of meningitis. It was touch and go for quite a while, but thanks to widespread prayer and wonderful doctors, he made a miraculous recovery.

Medically induced comas allow the brain and body to rest and heal. Eli Zimmerman, a neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, explains about this type of treatment.

“Patients are sedated – put into a medically-induced coma – because doctors want the brain to have to do as little as possible. This way, the brain can heal. The medications that are used to sedate the patient also prevent seizures. If the brain has been irritated by injury, it may go into seizures once the medication is stopped… Seizures indicate that the patient is not brain dead. There has to be some brain activity.”

Perhaps Bobbi Kristina simply needs more time to heal. Even before the bathtub incident that landed her in the hospital, she was not in a good mental state. The loss of Whitney Houston was a crushing blow to this cherished daughter, and with the anniversary of her death so close on the horizon, we can understand why Bobbi Kristina was having issues.

If I could speak to the Brown clan, I would tell them not to give up hope. As long as there is breath, there is hope. Even if a machine is helping Bobbi Kristina to breathe, it is still not too late. Miracles still happen. I’m sending daily prayer for Bobbi Kristina. Will you join me?
