A purple, disc shaped UFO was recently filmed in broad daylight over Lima, Peru, by a television crew who were interrupted by the strange, as-yet-unexplained object.
A television show called Alto al Crimen (High Crime), was filming an episode in the upscale Miraflores district of Lima on February 10 when the UFO was spotted hovering in the skies nearby. Lima Congressman Renzo Reggiardo, who was hosting the show, paused in order to allow the cameraman to focus on the unusual object, which hung seemingly motionless above a construction site.
Eyewitnesses reported observing the UFO for a two-hour-long stretch of time, describing a disc shaped object that appeared to be purple at its center. The footage, when zoomed in, reveals the UFO exhibited edges that were darker in color, which also appeared to be dynamic, changing in size. Though the UFO was filmed, no footage has been recorded of it leaving the area, and the question of how it departed the region remains unanswered.

The Peruvian chapter of MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network) is investigating the case, and have posited several explanations for the UFO. They have suggested that the object may be a misidentified kite or drone, though the group points out that eyewitnesses say that the UFO hovered for far longer than a commercial drone can remain in the air. Others have suggested that the UFO may be a misidentified comet, citing the fact that the object appeared to be unaffected by winds in the area, remaining static. MUFON refuted that theory, however, noting that at one point in the video, a bird appeared to fly behind the object.

Just over a minute into the footage, a smaller object appears to break off from the UFO’s right side. Video analysis was conducted by MUFON to establish whether it represented an artifact from filming, and the possibility could not be discounted. On February 12, another video of the UFO emerged on YouTube, though it has since been deleted.

The UFO over Lima is hardly the first to be spotted in Peru. In 2013, the country’s government reactivated the Peruvian Office of Anomalous Aerial Phenomena Research (OIFAA), which had been shuttered for five years, after a rash of UFO sightings. Originally established in 2001, the agency closed after seven years, due to administrative issues. Though it certainly falls within their purview, it is unclear whether the group intends to investigate the most recent UFO sighting over Peru.
