At Last, Etta James hates Beyonce

While most critics praised Beyonce’s performance of At Last at the Inauguration ball, there’s one person who wasn’t that impressed: Etta James

At Last is James’ signature tune, and she’s pretty miffed that she wasn’t asked to sign it for President Obama, telling a concert audience “You guys know your President, right? You know the one with the big ears? Wait a minute, he ain’t my President, he might be yours but he ain’t my President.”

“I tell you that woman he had singing for him, singing my song, she gonna get her ass whooped… The great Beyonce … but I can’t stand Beyonce. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol’ president day … singing my song that I’ve been singing forever.”

As a couple of sites have rightly pointed that although Etta James may be best known for signing it, it wasn’t her tune to begin with, having been recorded by both Glenn Miller (1941) and Nat King Cole (1957).
