Sega reveals Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2

Unless you’ve more or less written off Sonic the Hedgehog, you’ve probably been wondering what the situation is with Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2. The first title of the episodic “sequel” came out back in October of 2010, but Sega hasn’t had much to say about the second installment. Now, it seems, they’re finally ready to talk about it.

In an exclusive reveal with GameSpot, Sega finally pulled back the curtain on Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 over a year later. In a video interview with Sega digital brand manager Ken Balough, we get to see the game’s debut teaser trailer and, along with it, the confirmation that Tails will be in Sonic 4: Episode 2.

The trailer doesn’t show us any gameplay, nor does Balough get too in-depth with what we can expect out of the second installment, but he did say that Sega has been listening to fans, and the relatively awkward physics that turned off diehard fans of the series has been addressed; according to Balough, Sonic 4: Episode 2‘s physics should fall more in line with the original Genesis versions. The graphics engine is said to be getting an upgrade as well, but we’ll have to take Balough’s word for it as we don’t have anything to go by right now.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 will release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 at some undisclosed point next year.
