Georgia Mom Rockell Coleman Charged With Murder In House Fire Deaths Of Two Of Her Five Sons

Georgia mom Rockell Coleman was charged with murder for allegedly leaving her five young sons home alone, two of the youngest, just toddlers, died in the house fire. Coleman, 28, had children ranging in age from three to 10 years of age. On Friday evening, Coleman left her five sons home alone and went out with some friends.

A fire broke out in the home and killed Rockell Coleman’s sons Haskel, 3, and Preston, 4. The surviving sons of the Georgia mom include Jarvis, 10, AJ, 9, and Shamari, 5. Jarvis has reportedly been placed on life support at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospital.

Rockell Coleman’s relatives claim that a roommate was supposed to be keeping an eye on the five boys on Friday evening. The Georgia mom has been charged with murder after the fire with “mysterious origins” blazed inside the home and took the lives of two young boys. In addition to the two counts of felony murder, Coleman also faces five counts of cruelty to children in the second degree.

Firefighters found two of Coleman’s sons outside when they arrived to fight the blaze, the other three young boys remained trapped inside the home. The Georgia mom’s family and friends are hailing AJ as a hero. They maintain that the boy rescued two of his brothers from the house and tried to go back in and help the others but was stopped by firefighters.

“He got Jarvis out and got Shamari out and when he went back in to get the babies, the fireman stopped him,” AJ’s uncle Christopher Marion told local WSB-TV News.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Lydia Pinckney, Rockell Coleman’s mother, was quick to defend her daughter. The mourning grandmother maintains that her son’s ex-girlfriend had recently moved in with Coleman and was “supposed” to be looking after the five boys the night their mom went out with friends.

“As my daughter told the police, [name redacted] was supposed to be watching them that night when all of this happened, but from that night to now, it’s like she disappeared from the face of the earth,” Pinckney said, adding that the Georgia police did not believe her daughter’s story.

Rockell Coleman was allegedly so distraught when told that her two youngest son had been killed, she was sedated and was still under the influence of those drugs when questioned by law enforcement officers.

“For them to take my daughter down and to question her while she was still under narcotics, I’m not understanding why you would question somebody that you knew had got heavily sedated while they were in the emergency room,” the grandmother also said.
