When Will The Comcast Tech Show Up? You Might Actually Know Thanks To An App

Comcast has an absolutely horrible reputation for customer service satisfaction, if you believe what surveys say. One of the most annoying things about Comcast, according to consumers, is never knowing when the cable technician will show up.

It was not uncommon to be told that the Comcast technician should arrive at your home between the hours of 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. In the meantime, you have to work, pick up your kids from school, or do whatever else you would normally do on a weekday.

Unless you wanted to risk missing the cable person and reschedule for two weeks from now, you would have basically had to stay put in your house. You may have looked at the clock every half hour and wondered if the Comcast person was ever going to arrive.

Although Comcast claims to have narrowed its arrival time to within two hours, this is simply not good enough for many people who have better things to do than wait on the cable tech to show up.

According to the Huffington Post, the American Consumer Satisfaction Index ranked Comcast second to last in its yearly ranking of consumer satisfaction in May.

Comcast decided to make a move in the right direction and put more control in its customers’ hands via an app that would tell them when to expect the cable technician to arrive.

Comcast technician app
The Comcast technician tracking app would allow customers to know where their technician is and approximately when to expect him or her to arrive.

“CEO Brian Roberts demoed one of our new features at an event in San Francisco that enables our customers to track our technicians’ arrival in real time,” a statement on Comcast’s corporate website explained.

Simply put, if you have a scheduled appointment with Comcast and you have the app, you can see when the technician is within 30 minutes of arriving at your home. You would be able to see where the technician is on a map, and you would be alerted if the cable person was going to be late.

This would allow you to leave the office within a certain time frame to make it home on time, pick up your children from school, or do whatever you need to do and know that you will be home on time to allow the cable person into your home.

Right now, the app is being tested outside of Boston. Customers who have access to the app can rate it, and Comcast plans to refine and upgrade the app as needed to provide a better experience for customers.

Comcast plans to make the app available to everyone in 2015, if the trial runs as smoothly as the company hopes it will.
