Stephen Colbert Mocks Texas Rep Louie Gohmert As ‘Astoundingly Ignorant’ [Video]

Stephen Colbert apparently hasn’t gotten the memo that you don’t want to mess with Texas — the state’s representatives are one of the most commonly lambasted on The Colbert Report. Another target, Texas Congressmen Louie Gohmert, will now join the ranks of Stephen’s long list of Lone Star State fodder — Colbert called Gohmert a “confused piece of gnocchi” on his show last night, due to comments that Louie made about the detrimental effect of gays in the military.

Stephen came after Gohmert for using the Greek army as a historical parallel for problems that could be caused by gays among the ranks in today’s armed forces. Louie claimed that the Greeks’ love of giving man-on-man massages to each other was a part of the empire’s downfall.

“I’ve had people say, ‘Hey, you know, there’s nothing wrong with gays in the military. Look at the Greeks. Well, you know, they did have people come along who they loved that was the same sex and would give them massages before they went into battle. But you know what, it’s a different kind of fighting, it’s a different kind of war and if you’re sitting around getting massages all day ready to go into a big, planned battle, then you’re not going to last very long. You are going to be ultimately vulnerable to terrorism and if that’s what you start doing in the military like the Greeks did.”

Colbert cut no corners when tearing down Louie’s comments. Stephen blatantly insulted the intelligence of the Texas representative — calling him “pervasively ignorant.”

“I’m with you, sir. People have said to me, ‘Stephen, I’m surprised you can even dress yourself. I bet you have to rub peanut butter inside your lips to remember to open your mouth to breath. I have never met, and I hope to never meet again a man so pervasively, astoundingly, unyieldingly ignorant.’ To which I say, ‘Well, you haven’t met Louie Gohmert.'”

This isn’t the first time Colbert has spoken out against the U.S. military’s policies on gay members. Before “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” went out of use in 2011, Stephen was extremely critical of the continued use of the ban on The Colbert Report.
