WWE News: Stephanie McMahon Under Fire For WWE’s Domestic Abuse Policies

Stephanie McMahon and the WWE are facing heat for the organization’s domestic violence policy, which one former superstar said is non-existent.

In a video posted this week, former wrestler Chyna called out the WWE for failing to control the level of abuse in its ranks, saying that her own life became a living hell because of the abuse she suffered. Chyna added that Stephanie McMahon is bad for business.

The video was posted in response to McMahon being named as an Eisenhower Fellow, which honors those who try to create a “more prosperous, just and peaceful world.”

Stephanie McMahon has actually made strides to increase WWE’s appeal with women, including a recent partnership with Susan G. Komen. In a recent question and answer session, McMahon explained that the impetus behind the partnership actually came from WWE superstar John Cena.

“Our relationship with Susan G. Komen started about three years ago and it started as a result of John Cena,” she said. “John actually had a family member who had cancer and because of early detection, his family member survived and stayed strong and moving forward. And because our fanbase is almost 40 percent female, we recognized the opportunity to partner on such an important cause like breast cancer awareness and we were able to partner with Susan G. Komen and help spread the message about early detection to an audience that may have never heard of it before.”

This partnership led to some interesting guest stars, including Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. But Stephanie McMahon was careful to say that the WWE was not reaching out exclusively to women.

“And in terms of how do we not turn off the male audience, it’s because breast cancer impacts everyone,” she said. “Whether you’re a mother or father, or a husband or a son, or a niece or a nephew or uncle, breast cancer doesn’t discriminate.”

While she may be taking heat from Chyna, Stephanie McMahon appears to be taking on a larger stature in the WWE. Sources say that her father, Vince McMahon, has been transitioning some of his control, especially over creative decisions, to both Stephanie and her husband, Triple H.
