‘Expendables 2’ Stuntman Dies on Set

Tragedy struck the set of “The Expendables 2” last night when a stuntman was killed while filming an explosion scene in Bulgaria. Another man involved in the stunt was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Neither stuntman has been identified.

MSNBC reports that the two stuntmen were filming an explosion at a reservoir in the town of Elin Pelin, just outside of Sofia. The explosion killed one of the stuntmen and put the other in the hospital. The second stuntman underwent a five hour operation and is now in stable condition.

Producers for “The Expendables 2” released a statement, saying:

“It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident.”

The all-star action hero cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jason Statham, and Chuck Norris, were not present at the time of the explosion. The main cast was filming at another location during the time of the explosion.

Deadline reports that local authorities are currently investigating the incident. Nu Image/Millennium have promised to cooperate with police.

Stallone, who was recently sued for stealing the story line for the first Expendables movie, was not available for comment.

Do you think they should shut down production on “The Expendables 2?”
