Oklahoma Triple Murder: Alan Hruby, 19, Killed Mom, Dad And Sister, Say Cops — Now Find Out Why

The shocking triple murder of a mom, dad, and their 17-year-old daughter in rural Oklahoma, discovered on Monday, has been solved, police say. According to Jason Hicks, a district attorney in Duncan, Oklahoma, a 19-year-old Oklahoma University student, Alan Hruby, was arrested and has confessed to the triple homicide.

“The victims were John Hruby, 50, Katherine “Tinker” Hruby, 48, and their teenage daughter, also named Katherine. The slain family members were the dad, mom and sister of accused killer Alan Hruby — and he is now the only living member of the Hruby family.”

After allegedly killing his family, probably on Thursday night, the Oklahoma University freshman apparently spent the weekend with friends at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Dallas, Texas, where he and his companions had traveled for the annual Oklahoma vs. Texas college football game.

Hruby posted an Instagram photo from the hotel as well as Twitter messages stating his location over the weekend in what may have been a crude attempt at setting up an alibi.

But according to police, the last time anyone recalled seeing a member of the Hruby family other than Alan was on Thursday, and his younger sister Katherine failed to show up for school at Duncan High on Friday.

But it wasn’t until Monday that the bodies were found by the Hrubys’ horrified cleaning lady.

John Hruby published a small local newspaper, The Marlow Review, where his wife also worked. Duncan Police Chief Danny Ford said that the family was well-known and respected in the town.

“It’s a prominent family, well-known and extremely well-liked. Grew up here, went to school here. Everybody knew the Hrubys. Everybody.”

But Alan Hruby had been in trouble already. Last year he faced credit card fraud charges when he was traveling in Europe on credit cards he obtained in his grandmother’s name — and slamming $5,000 on the cards while traveling before he got caught.

He was also a suspect in the theft of checks when he was arrested for the triple murder, but he had no known history of violent behavior.

Ford said that when Hruby was first told by police that his family was dead, he put on an extravagant display of emotion, weeping and generally freaking out. That was on Monday. By the end of the day Tuesday, police say, he confessed to the murders.

Cops say that Hruby shot his parents and sister to death with a Walther 9mm handgun owned by his dad, who reported it stolen earlier Thursday. By why did Alan Hruby do it?

According to police, the Oklahoma U. political science student committed the unthinkable crime for the most mundane of reasons. He owed about $3,000 in illegal debts, but his parents recently ended his financial support. Hruby believed that he would benefit from an inheritance that would solve his money problems — if his family was dead.

Oklahoma Prosecutors say that now Alan Hruby could face the death penalty if convicted of the triple murder.
