American Horror Story: Freak Show fans have been bombarded with twisted teasers over the last few weeks, but these short videos were just concepts that rarely gave viewers a glimpse of what’s actually going on be featured on the show.
Thanks to two new videos, fans can finally get a look at what they’ll see on the spooky FX series. The Hollywood Reporter recently shared the creepy opening credits for American Horror Story: Freak Show and they are a masterfully macabre work of horror.
As you can see, the Freak Show opening credits pay homage to many famous freaks and sideshow attractions. There’s a Lobster Boy doll, “Ohio Big Foot Girl” Fanny Mills (she’s the woman in the wheelchair with the giant legs), a human blockhead hammering a nail into his nose, and conjoined twins engaging in an incestuous make out session.
The American Horror Story: Freak Show video also features a bicycle made out of a human skeleton, two tiny skeletons that appear to be performing a sex act, a naked three-legged woman, a horned freak with no legs, a female sword swallower, and way too many creepy clown dolls (one of them is a menacing monkey). There’s probably such a heavy clown presence in the trailer because season 4’s villain is going to be a terrifying clown named Twisty.
These might just be the series’ creepiest opening credits ever, and the AHS music got a pretty amazing makeover. You might find it hard to watch the mesmerizing opening credits just once.
The second new American Horror Story video features some of the first footage from Season 4. Pepper from American Horror Story: Asylum makes an appearance, and viewers get to see why Sarah Paulson’s conjoined twin characters decide to join the freak show. World’s Smallest Woman Jyoti Amge is shown being held by Evan Peters’ clawed character, and she later pops up inside a birdcage.
Jyoti Amge isn’t the only Freak Show star who doesn’t need prosthetics and special effects to make her look different. As The Inquisitr previously reported, Mat Fraser is the “Illustrated Seal” with short arms. You can see him standing beside Evan Peters at the 0:19 mark. The tall woman standing with them is Erika Ervin, a.k.a. “Amazon Eve.” Rose Siggins is “Legless Suzy.” She can be seen walking on her hands at the 0:27 mark. There are also glimpses of Kathy Bates’ bearded lady, Angela Bassett’s three-breasted character, and Jessica Lange’s glamorous freak show manager.
Things don’t start getting scary until the very end — this is where John Carroll Lynch’s Twisty the clown gets all stabby. You might recognize his sinister smile from one of the earlier teasers.
The smile is just a really scary mask, but Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that what he’s hiding underneath the mask is far worse. Murphy stated that some fans might even “faint in terror” after they see the bottom half of Twisty’s freakish face.
American Horror Story: Freak Show premieres October 8 at 10 p.m. on FX. Is what you’ve seen so far making you even more excited to step right up to Ryan Murphy’s sideshow?
