Katie Holmes Doesn’t Blame Career Stall On Tom Cruise

Katie Holmes is in a very interesting position as far as her image is concerned. Holmes’ career took a huge hit when she decided to marry Tom Cruise, and some would argue that it was because of Cruise that she couldn’t devote herself to her craft. A few years later and now Katie (not “Kate”) is finding her footing playing The Mother in the film The Giver.

Although Holmes has participated in interviews while married to Cruise, she came across as vacant. Now that she’s diving head first into her career, she’s also in the unique position of letting people know that she’s “okay.” That said, if you’re looking for good quotes about her personal life or how she broke away from Scientology, you won’t find them in any interview.

While Holmes remains very private about her life outside of film, she is adamant about one thing. Her marriage to Tom Cruise isn’t the reason why she stalled in her career. According to a recent interview with Dujour magazine, it was her own choice to put things on hold.

“It’s the life of an actor. We don’t really have a lot of choice in the matter. You have dry spells, and then you have times when there is a lot of opportunity.”

In fact, the actress hopes that in the coming years she can take on more of a producer role, and also hopes that one day she will be able to direct. As it is it looks like Holmes is getting a head start on one of those dreams. In July it was announced that she might be producing the film All We Had. If everything goes forward with this project it will be an adaptation of the “gritty” novel by Annie Weatherwax.

Entertainment Weekly reported the book follows a mother and her teen daughter who are “living on the edge of poverty.”

As for why she decided to take a break from acting? That’s all due to daughter Suri, who she shares with Tom Cruise.

“I totally admire women who go back to work six weeks after giving birth but when she was little, I was not ready. I was a very nervous mother — like, sleeping next to her crib — and I was in that mode for a long time.”

Up next for Holmes is Mania Days about two manic depressed people that meet in a hospital and start a romance.
