Josh Gracin Alive: Police Prevent Suicide After Note Post On Facebook

Thankfully, Josh Gracin is alive. After the American Idol alum posted a chilling suicide note on Facebook Thursday, police caught up with the Season 2 finalist near his home in Tennessee that same day. The comforting news puts to rest rumors circulating on the internet of another American Idol death over a short span of time.

According to Taste of Country, Gracin did not commit suicide as family, friends, and fans feared after Josh posted an alarming note with suggestions that he was preparing to take his own life.

A short time after police were dispatched to investigate Josh’s disappearance and possible suicide, he was found driving home. However, police made the decision to commit Josh Gracin for mental evaluation, under the state’s 5150 law.

California's Welfare and Institutions Code, Section 5150

When a person, as a result of a mental health disorder,
is a danger to others, or to himself or herself, or gravely disabled,
a peace officer, professional person in charge of a facility
designated by the county for evaluation and treatment, member of the
attending staff, as defined by regulation, of a facility designated
by the county for evaluation and treatment, designated members of a
mobile crisis team, or professional person designated by the county
may, upon probable cause, take, or cause to be taken, the person into
custody for a period of up to 72 hours for assessment, evaluation,
and crisis intervention, or placement for evaluation and treatment in
a facility designated by the county for evaluation and treatment and
approved by the State Department of Health Care Services.

Gracin caused a ripple on social media when he posted a concerning note that hinted of suicide and marital issues, as previously reported by The Inquisitr.

“I’ve loved her for 17 years… I made mistakes… I’ve admitted them, told her the truth and she turned her back on me when I needed her help the most,” Josh Gracin’s apparent suicide note read in part.”

The letter spoke in a post-mortem manner with “please remember me” and a stunning “goodbye” to fans. Immediately, there was an outpouring of love, support, and calls for him to answer his phone, to no avail.

Local police raced to Josh’s home, only to find his wife home. However, they managed to reach him on his mobile phone, and learned he was returning home. Officers managed to locate him and pulled him over. And under a police escort, Gracin willingly drove to a nearby hospital to be evaluated under the 5150 hold. A short time later, his manager shared the good news that the singer was alive, had not committed suicide and was under supervision.

Josh followed up with a heartfelt message of apology to his fans after the news surfaced that authorities intercepted him.

Given the fact that comedian-actor Robin Williams died days ago of an apparent suicide, and Season 7 American Idol alum Michael Johns’ death (blood clot) on August 2 shocked the music world, it’s comforting to hear that Josh’s life didn’t end too soon.

Hopefully, the former Marine will get the help he needs to address his mental health and what appears to be stress in his marriage of 13 years.
