Dog Left For Dead After Giving Birth: Truck Driver Finds Abandoned Dog On Hot Pavement In Oklahoma

A dog left for dead on the hot, unforgiving pavement was discovered by a truck driver at a truck stop in Burns Flat, Oklahoma. The medium-sized, black female dog appeared to have just given birth to puppies then dumped there. The only thing that made the truck driver think she was still alive was that her chest was moving, proving she was breathing and had a heartbeat.

KFOR News Channel 4 reports that the dog called “Momma” was found by the truck driver, and animal rescuer, Terry Lynn Bloomer, took over. She’s the one everyone in the area calls if animals need help.

Terry Lynn arrived to find the poor canine bleeding from bite marks all over her body and unable to move. Momma had been abandoned and left for dead.

More details of what Terry Lynn saw when she arrived on the scene is reported by the Dog News Examiner:

“I went to check on her… she was laying in the parking lot, on the hot pavement, unable to move… the look in her eyes as I kneeled down and spoke to her brought me to tears… As I spoke, her tail wagged….

“I called my vet and had them on standby and called for help to load her and get her to my vet…
This innocent sweet girl is COVERED in bite marks… tons of them all over her face, throat, legs, shoulder and chest… It appears someone threw her out there and left her to die in the heat…
even as we rolled her over on the blanket to left her, her tail wagged.”

She was immediately taken to a veterinarian in Elk City. The dog was in a lot of pain and is fighting hard to live. The good news is she’s already showing signs of recovery.

Terry Lynn tells KFOR:

“When they fight that hard to live, we’ll fight right along with them. When we got to her she couldn’t raise her head. She just laid there and looked up at us with her eyes and now she looks wonderful.”

“Momma” is determined to live.

The obvious question is, who would leave a dog like this for dead? Terry Lynn sees way too much of this.

“You’d be amazed. There’s so many people that do it,” the rescuer says. “Sadly in Western Oklahoma we see a lot of it.”

Terry Lynn goes on to say that Momma was lucky a “truck driver cared enough to kind of see her breathing and called us.”

Momma’s recovery period will be a long one, but she’ll need a foster home and eventually a forever home with someone who’ll love her the way she deserves to be. In the meantime, rescuers and authorities want to know who abandoned the dog.
