ThunderCats is Back! Hooooooo

Posted: July 28, 2011

thundercats remake-cartoon networkIt’s been a long time coming, but Thundercats, the 80′s cartoon series which followed the adventures of a group of cat-like humanoid aliens from the planet of Thundera, is making its return to TVs across the US tomorrow (July 28th) night.

While the Warner Bros. produced remake of the popular animated series will feature updated graphics, provided by Japanese animation crew Studio 4°C, the group responsible for the animation work done in The Animatrix, the plot and characters will still be familiar to fans of the cult-classic.

According to Wired, who got a sneak peak at the premiere episode already, here is what you can expect:

The latest version of ThunderCats follows Lion-O on a quest to protect the kingdom of Thundera on Third Earth from the evil forces of Mumm-Ra. Lion-O is still rocking the legendary Sword of Omens and his still followed by his litter of merry mousers to help him on his journey — Tygra, Cheetara, Panthro, WilyKat and Snarf.

The new ThunderCats series debuts this Friday at 8 p.m./7 p.m. Central on Cartoon Network.

Until then, “feel the magic” of the 2-minute teaser below and let us know what you look forward to the most in the upcoming throwback-remake.

Once again Hollywood can’t find an original idea to save their lives, I'll watch it with my 6 year old but I have a feeling they will to Thunder Cats what Scrappy did to Scooby Doo!

  14. Oh snap! I loved Thundercats back in the day! No way it's going to as awesome as the original…and is it me or did I not see Panthro anywere in that video? :/ Kinda cool to see them redone for 2011 though. Hope Cartoon Network doesn't make them stupid!

  15. What happened to Panthro?

  16. What ran out of movies to remake? Now you have to remake cartoons? Geez…to much money in Hollywood and no one is willing to risk it on new material, but would rather flush it down the drain by resurrecting old material.

Make NEW Stuff! They do it in Japan…why can't you do it here? Oh wait…people are afraid of failing…guess what…you failed already.

  17. Hehe, I guess you have not seen the trailer for the Battleship movie then?

  18. Don't b hatin on the thundercats yo, even if u ain't down with the clown.

  19. I did see some pictures…and they have a "Naval" Captain "wearing" Army/Marine/Air Force CAPTAIN insignia's….another FAIL!

God, of course its not going to compare.

That would be very silly, why SHOULD it compare anyway?

Its good that they've modernised it while staying true to the characters, and for that we should be thankful.

    Fuck sake mun, stop moaning.
